Acer has taken a crack at the DDR5 market with a refreshing new take. Here we have the Acer Predator Hermes, which aims to appease both gamers and overclockers alike. This DDR5 memory kit may be the first to include a fan, because we overclockers know DDR5 can get a bit toasty! Follow along as we test and compare to see what Acer has in store for us.

Thanks for the review! It really looks like DDR5 at this point is a done deal stable platform - pretty much everyone on r/overclocking will give you same advice: get hynix a-die kit and call it a day.

Even a meme $50 5600cl16 Kingston kit will do near the same or even better numbers. DDR5 ram choices are now easy, compared to DDR4 days where you had to hunt for Samsung b-die. Hynix a-die is being made by the truckload, it's in plenty of cheap kits too.

Attached is the AM5 cheat sheet for DDR5 Hynix a-die. The timings are based on Buildzoids and further improved collectively by the folks at r/overclocking. It's got all the timings needed as well as the Nitro DDR5 settings that reviews somehow don't know about, or omit for some reason.

If you're on AM5 go for latency over bandwidth.

Nice find. Just a word of caution to people just typing these values in. Not all ICs are made equal and not all CPUs can do the same FLCK. Each motherboard also changes these values as well. So while it is a good starting point, you still have to playing around with timings and voltages per system. Plus validate everything yourself. Same pitfalls that 1usmus Ryzen Calculator had. So many threads of people with unstable systems wondering why. Root cause was copy/paste of values they don't understand.

100% - always validate, your board might not be as good as the current AM5 memory overclocking reference board - Asus GENE, which can achieve those values. 2 dimm design especially for high mem speeds.

Geardown mode "disabled" only works on a handful of boards, for everyone else always keep GDM ON. Rest of the guide is near copy/paste as it gets.

Edit: here is the precalculated tRFC table to use, I forgot to attach it earlier.

My DDR5 ram kit is insanely fast once i make the timings tight and i change a few other stuff in the bios. My latency is usually around 60 at a 6200 speed. I noticed a huge fps boost in games, and my Aida scores improved quite a bit too. It would be nice to see everything pushed to the max, not just go for high speed. On AMD, even with the latest bios updates, my board still can't push past 6400, not that it's a good idea anyways. I keep seeing how much "better" these speeds are for AMD.

Id love to see a test with 6000-6400 speeds tops, with the best possible settings and timings. Lowest possible voltage. That would probably take a lot of testing and restarting, i get that... Id still love it if we had these stats tho ;p

P.s. The buildzoid ez ram timings was a great place to start, from there i went even further and after 10 days of testing, i think i got the most out of my ram. I gained a ton of bonus fps too, especially in Tomb Raider. I dunno why that game benefits soo much from it. I had games that could barely hit 60 fps, now i go above it. Made my gaming smoother. I wouldn't bother if the fps difference was 1-2 either. It's a lot more. For some reason, better timings made my PC feel smoother too. From 75-82 latency to 60. Maybe its just in my brain, who knows!

6800MT\S @ 1:1 should be doable with 9000 series Ryzen when they hit market. Be even better with CL32 enabled instead of auto. :D

Why not? I get sent something, I review it.

Well rumors say 6400 1:1 will be the new 6000 1:1, so we will see in 6 months.
Not trying to hijack the thread but 6400 1:1 is easy to do with my mid range gear from last year with CL30, MT pro stable as well.
But hey as they say you know.. the silicon lottery!

@Launcestonian It has gotten a lot easier with newer AGEAS versions for sure. Use to not boot at all, now it at least works on some motherboards.

Why are unavailable products being reviewed?
Might not be available yet in the US, but I am sure it will be. Bought 2 sets of their Predator DDR4 from Amazon last year and Newegg has Acer DDR5 available, only older sets. Takes a little while.

Yes of course, but you know they can break things as well. I'm still on AGESA 1.1.0.0 - not changing either, performance is very good @ 6000 1:1 CL30

Naming it with some ancient Greek gods gives it OC-ability to 100%, for sure...
and real "PRO" OC-ers could make a custom cooling themselves, still, a fan for RAM is nonsense... get a good breathing case and put good strong front intake fans, they will blow straight to the RAM lol, at least top 2.
