Ok gamers...

Need some insight (coming from the Australian market here)

I'm ready to pull the trigger (though willing to wait as far as seeing what black friday sales bring) to buy a 32 inch 4k 240hz oled screen. I've noticed (like most) that there's a lot of price disparity between the regions so I wanted to throw down the Australian prices and get the take from the brains trust here.

ASUS PG32UCDM - QDOLED - $2750 (dp1.4, 90w type c)
ASUS PG32UCDP - WOLED - $2400 (dp1.4, 90w type c, dual mode to 1080p @ 480hz)
Gigabyte AORUS - FO32U2P - QDOLED - $2200 (dp2.1 UHBR20, 65w type c)
MSI MPG 321URX - QDOLED - $2200 (dp1.4, 90w type c)
MSI MAG 321UPX - QDOLED - $2200 (dp1.4, 15w type c - earlier models have firmware flashing issues)
Alienware AW3225QF - QDOLED - $1900 (dp1.4, not sure about it's power delivery through type c, has an active cooling fan and is curved)
LG - 32GS95UE-B - WOLED - $2400 (dp1.4, not sure about power delivery - dual mode to 1080p @ 480hz)
Samsung - LS32DG802SEXXY - QDOLED - $2000 (dp1.4, no usb type c)

I've seen the Alienware drop from 1900 to as low as 1425 (25% off) and don't care about the curve but will lose my mind with the active cooling.
I've seen the MSI MAG drop to 1750 (20% off ) but it's got lower power delivery and possible firmware upgrade path difficulties (depending on what revision you get)
I've seen the Samsung for 1600 (20% off and less with a trade in)

The biggest issue I've got though is I can't go and see any of these screen in real life before making a purchase (no one in my town has them in stock - order in only)

I'm a gamer, streamer and content consumer (movies, tv etc from streaming services) but I have zero need for 480hz mode the WOLED's have (or their 2 year warranty)
I can't justify the ASUS premium for any reason.

It's comes down to I quite like the MSI models, but would probably prefer to have more than 15w pd and easily upgradeable firmware, so that makes me look at the MPG, but for the same money the gigabyte model has UHBR20 which seems like a nice upgrade down the road)

Anyone got any input (definitely don't get x, or do look at y, or use case z makes this one great/garbage) budget's not really an issue despite the ASUS comment.

A vote for the Gigabyte AORUS - FO32U2P - QDOLED - $2200 (dp2.1 UHBR20, 65w type C), because the DisplayPort ;)

Don't forget to get a premium DP2.1 16K cable with it.

since i hate any black (levels) that arent black, and FALD tvs below 65in (outside of miniLED), not having enough zones to prevent glow/blooming etc,
i looked at oleds as well, but after reading about ABL issues on virtually all oleds being used as moni, i decide against them.

if you dont care about high refresh, maybe go the tv route? still has sync modes like vrr..

oleds

and check this:

@Waldorf I'm already on a 144hz main screen so I do care about high refresh (240 is about the cap though hence the lack of desire for 480hz @ 1080p)

Both my screens are 32" atm and I can't see myself supporting any bigger (the biggest I could cope with would be a 40" screen and I think that might be a touch too big at my viewing distance)

I'm overly perturbed by a bit of purple haze.

Your oled link shows me 2 of the considered screens I listed, but I ruled out the WOLED for the shorter warranty and a price premium for features with no value to me, and sadly the lack of usb c on the samsung really hurts it for me way more than it should.

I'm leaning this way
1. MSI MAG321UPX if I can get a deeper discount that what I've seen
2. MSI MPG321URX if I see it for 10% less than RRP.
3. Gigabyte AORUS FO32U2P if the other 2 don't lean into discount territory.

If I was mostly gaming in a dark room which I do I would grab a QD oled which I have. If I was gaming in a room with ambient light I would grab a woled which I also have they look better in a lit room to my eye.... Beyond that it would just come down to the rest of the features you need.

I prefer glossy over matte but that is subjective.

The only thing I do not like about qd oled is how it handles ambient light but in a dark room they look better with slightly better color.

ABL may or may not bother someone that is not use to it the QDoled dim faster than the woled in my experience but in games it's hard to notice only in movies is it obvious.

The asus woled has a 3 year warranty here shame it's only 2 in Australia.

I pretty much agree with all his points here though although I value the higher color volume in a dark room slightly more than he does.

mpg is their entry stuff, not bad, but more for folks that have no clue and want a safe recommendation.
i would go with the mag..

flicker on some oleds is annoying, and ABL when using the pc for browsing/ file explorer etc, not so much with gaming.

i worked at a theater, able to watch movies every week with less than 5 ppl in the room, and the last job with sony allowed for gaming on a 85in @6ft, so as long as i get +400 zones with miniled, next one will be 65in, as the 50in is nice for desktop use, but not movies/gaming.. :D

I have both the G8 Oled and the LG ips in Rtings testing and I can't tell them apart as far as flicker with the same gpu at the same framerates..... Maybe it's due to having a 4090 and the framerate being consistent but it can only be noticed for me during loading screens.

Facebook is the only annoying site with an oled lol everything else even tpu is fine. Although if you look at an 80% plus white screen for long periods of time sure.

yeah, sensitive to flicker up around 100ish, no matter if screen or light source (dimming), and the abl on a vizio tv made me return it after a week, so i wont try oled, especially since what i would get is not cheap (sony 65 A series).

Yeah, I got to see the a95L and LG G4 side by side recently and although the sony had slightly better color the G4 is much brighter to my eyes in a bright room it's the same reason I went with the G2 over the S95B for my living room television it looks better in a bright room although unlike the OP I got to spend 2 weeks with both making it much easier to decide even then it was hard.

For what they cost still I understand why people are reluctant to drop a ton on them. I recently got to see the new Sony mini led tv and honestly it looks pretty fantastic but it's also super pricy.

I went with the G8 oled for a different reason it's the only oled monitor with a remote at it's size lol. First world problems. Had to put shutters in my office to use it during the day though.

i would go with the mag..
The MAG is the entry level, so I question your statement about 'no clue'
The MPG is mid range/mainstream
The MEG is the enthusiast level.

Also in this instance the difference in the MAG and MPG largely comes down to a few usb ports, power delivery over usb type (15 v 90) and ease of firmware upgrade (regardless of monitor revision)

In the U.S that's a $50 price premium, here it's (when discounts are in play) up to $500

probably because the light sensor wasnt turned off, have seen it too many times, that stores without a sony rep (doing setup), that they dont turn on retail/demo modes.
the sonys colors will always look different, as they are one of the small amount of brands that pre-calibrate their screens, to the point any additional calibration tends to be "invisible" to humans.

when i still worked for them in mil stores a friend worked for LG, and with them providing the oled panels to sony, we compared stuff, ran each others (demo) content etc,
and they are close (after calibration of LG), except that under identical conditions (tv running 4k content everyday from 9-9), the LGs always experienced image retention/color loss on blue
after 8-12 month (depending on the model), while the equivalent sony did not, coming down to what goes on behind the scenes.
cant talk about anything newer than 2023 models tho.

some of the Hisense miniLED seem to be pretty decent, incl amount of zones even on smaller screens, good color gamut, and after calibration are around what the other brands can do.

@Bagerklestyne
your right, mixed up the 2.
but dam, do you get hit from living on an island.
at least its not so bad for me (still less selection, as many dont care to pay for shipping without reimbursement (amazon, or they want another 30-80$ for shipping).

i had looked it up when 400 series came out, but never again (as i only get MEGs), and anything i used for customer builds on x570, was to be below 180-200$, which was always some MPG board,
so i guess i just remembered the wrong model name as being the lower tier.

Yeah, we call it the Australia tax over here.

for reference the 1000-1300 u.s price range translates to 1500-1950 in straight conversion but reality is that price range is 1900-2750, so slap 25% + on it. Only upside I guess is wages (in general) aren't too bad though the planet appears to be struggling with the cost of living right now.

Quietly wonder if a 1000 usd is a big a hit to the wallet/pocket of someone as the 2000 is here.

Dug a little more and probably ruled out the gigabyte now due to some hdr brightness issues with AMD gpu's

Yeah, I've got mates who can drop ship to me easily enough, but then there's zero warranty :(

Also @oxrufiioxo you were right about the ASUS variant of the WOLED screen (3 years warranty in australia) but again, hard to justify the price premium for essentially no value for my case.

More and more I look the MPG is the model the I'll lean into, will wait for a sale or pull the trigger just after black friday/cybermonday with a hope to getting a modest discount (I feel like anything under 2 grand will make it a comfortable decision - and I get buyers remorse buying a loaf of bread)

I have the alienware one and love it... The curve is very slight and it's better than a 32" flat IMO (i've had both and prefer the curve).

I know this comment might not go over well, but have you looked at IPS 4k displays? Unless you really want the contrast ratio, most of the IPS panels are amazing looking, can do upwards of 240+hz@2ms pixel response and at half the cost or less.

If that was an unwelcome idea, tell me to hush-up..

No hush for you, I considered this path very much...

I did pull the trigger on the MPG321URX in the end, and got about 7% off (not a lot but given the best I saw in any other shop was less than .5% I was moderately happy) not to say there wont be better options and indeed likely deeper discounts come black friday/cyber monday (though they don't translate too much over to big discounts) pulling the trigger now and enjoying it was worth not waiting.

Also, my eyes are going bug mode, I had a curved main screen for so long going back to flat has take some getting used to.

Ok, cool! I figured it was worth a mention just for some broad perspective.

MPG321URX
That a QD-LED panel, very nice! You should love it and the QD-LED tech has already shown to be very resistant to "burn-in" or image-ghosting.

In addition to the viewing angle problem, there is the fact that going back & forth between them and flat screens can be annoying. I stick to flat screens. Curved screens, to me, are novelty.

Yeah and they're all coming with 3 year burn-in and the I've turned all the burn in mitigation (panel care/protection) stuff up to max and it's not annoying me. One nice feature that wasn't offered on initial firmware is now when the screen needs a 'maintenance care' activity is it does it 10 minutes after the computer goes into standby so it's not even impacting.

Initially it was, oh you're mid game, here's a popup you can't dismiss in a nano second and you're dead.

Agree regarding the viewing angles, I didn't realise how obvious it was (it's comically different)

Call me a weird, but it feels like a flat screen is making my eyes work a little more (focal range from the middle of the screen to the edges) which might make them tired but also stops them from getting lazy at fixed focal range.

That comes from having used curved screens. Your eye muscles will readjust and retrain themselves after a week or so. A week soon passes.
