First they remove the removable battery and give us external battery banks.
Then they remove the 3.5mm headphone jack and give us USB-C dongles.
Then they remove the memory memory card slots and give us overpriced internal flash memory upgrades and humongous external SSD drives with long cables.
Can't wait for them to remove cameras next, because why not?
Smartphone industry along with its peripherals is a dead-end industry that just needs to be blown up and built back up again from scratch.

Back in 2013 Sony did launch QX series of cameras which were meant as attachments to smartphones but had much better functionality and performance. Olympus followed suit with their Air series of micro 4/3 based cameras. Even FLIR sells attachment for smartphones which adds thermal imaging capabilities. Compared to stupidity of removal of memory card slot and headphone jack, I wont mind cameras being removed in favour of additional modules with larger sensor or better zoom capabilities. Another benifit of not having camera on phones is they can pass security checks at sensitive places.
