Akko adds wood to its keyboard portfolio with the new MU01 series. This is a 65% keyboard with two different themes, both of which use a rich walnut case, a gasket mount PCB with lots of damping, high quality 1st-party switches, thick PBT keycaps, and well-lubed stabilizers to put out a satisfying sound and typing feel.

very nice!!

If they drop a 100% form factor version with backlit keys and maintain zero-pings/reverberations in the sound test - I'D BUY ONE IN A JIFFY!! (as long as the full sized variant isn't wildly marked up in price).

There was a guy in one of the offices I manage who needed a wooden keyboard because he had a contact allergy that was triggered by abs plastic!

When he left, I acquired his bamboo keyboard and it was remarkably pleasant to use, despite being a cheapo membrane keyboard. The mouse was total garbage, but the keyboard is something I've kept around because bamboo keycaps just feel nice under your fingertips. When I first saw this review I was hoping it was another example of wooden keycaps but sadly it's still just plastic keycaps.

Presumably someone somewhere makes a wooden keycap set, right?

Can't he do what i do? Just put toilet paper all over the keyboard? I also use towels, shirts, blankets and pillow cases. Any kind of cloth can work. Yeah, i don't see the keyboard and keys... but do you think i need to? I don't see it now, as i write this lol. I'm sure he will get used to it too. Just wondering really, cus I'm also kind of in the same boat as him.. kind of.

lol i wouldn't be surprised if some fabric-based keyboard is next in line. I can see it already "Denim RGB keyboard with pockets to hold our insanity" with an added feature "free waterproof jacket included".

I like the sound, the layout not so much.

For me, TKL is the best layout. I need functions keys for writing code, I don't want to press 2 keys for a function key, add ALT or/and CTRL and you have to press 3 or 4 keys.
Even for gaming I like to have functions keys and on 60% I press Esc when I don't want to. Esc should be in its corner, alone, away from 1 and TAB.

Common sense is uncommon
Yeah and then they DO add RGB because hey, its great if your attention gets drawn to the space BETWEEN the keys isn't it.

The stupidity is mind blowing.

Fabric keyboards exist and they're dumb. Some of the Microsoft Type covers for Surface Pro, as well as a single Yoga model from Lenovo and IIRC Asus tried it at one point a few years ago.

Those were still plastic keycaps, but fabric surrounds and palm rest. They get disgusting, just as your clothes would be if they were in contact with your skin daily but you never ever washed them.

Another example of "things that get very gross" are the fabric phone covers that Google sold for the Pixel 3 and 3a, though at least the could be scrubbed in the sink with soapy water - not something you should really be doing with a keyboard ;)

Lots of companies try it once, and then drop it like a hot potato.

Daym! They've tried that already?

These companies will try anything and every to get something to stick.... only this time around, the perishing stick suffers from "Hygiene" issues which is something these manufacturers should have reconsidered from the get-go. I can barely keep my "washable" fabric-based desk mat clean let alone delve into fabric-based non-washable hand-to-device peripherals. Nasty!

Don't be surprised if Microsoft, Lenovo and ASUS join up with Loreal and start selling washable womens tights in colour assorted packs of 7, one for each day of the week. Product tagline "Give your keyboard an intimate fabric makeover, because shes worth it".
