Lian Li aims to cut the cord with its new UNI FAN SL 120 Wireless, using a new wireless receiver and controller system to allow for a potentially cleaner build and minimal wiring in view. The fans also feature 40 RGB LEDs each and have extensive software support over performance and looks.

What do you call a wireless fan that still has wires attached?

A fan with commitment issues

No denying, these fans do look good in various setups. A bit pricey for my liking - for that sort of money (around $25) i usually look for 3-pack combos

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
I find myself asking the same questions over and over—who asked for this, and what does this offer that makes it a viable product?

This is a classic solution in search of a problem.

Maybe someone has a problem that this solves, but for everyone else the problems of cable spaghetti, irritating proprietary software, and a lack of standardisation remain unsolved.

3 years warranty is a start. I'm not sure if other fan companies offer 6 years these days.

As most Users will use the windows operating system there should be not an issue with the software at all. In my point of view the uefi in combination with the microcontroller of the mainboard should do all the fan controlls including the lighnting effects. Operating system age and controller software maybe not be developed further. These fans may lock you in a certain windows operating system and version.

It's an interesting idea. I do not get the point why not use existing technologies to use only two wires per fan for all the controls and powering of the fans.

This would have probably made sense had cases still be the behemoths of the previous decade, between the old MountainMods and CaseLabs cases and E-ATX and ATX-XL cases being the norm in order to support extreme watercooling, extreme air cooling, and multi-GPU. Those required fan extenders just to reach the extremities of said cases, unless one didn't care about cable management. Given that there's an increasing desire to have 2 GPUs again, with one for local AI use, maybe we'll see a return to bigger cases and more PCIe lanes at the consumer/prosumer level in time.
