Dragon Age is back, with the first new game in the series after a decade. "Dragon Age: The Veilguard" is an action RPG that tasks us with saving the world of Thedas from a godlike evil with a number of quirky companions. Curious about performance on the Steam Deck and ROG Ally? Find out in our handheld performance review.

I think for so many 2024/2025 games, there's a real need for RDNA 4 SoC, they also announced FSR 4.0 with AI with an emphasis on handheld gaming PC.

Steam Deck OLED 2 with a custom RDNA4 SoC (I don't know, behemoth, Tifa, chocobo, whatever they call it) can be interesting, definitely, other than that, I feel that MH wilds, GTA, Dragon Age, there are (or are going to be) too much concessions/fps drops on newer games

But the PS5 Pro has been very disappointing which does not bode well for RDNA4. So far it seems a flop.

35 percent more GPU performance on average for RT off titles with 60 percent more GPU cores.

I think Valve needs to wait for 3nm. If they can shrink RDNA4 to 3nm it might work in a handheld well.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
i played it on my Ally at 900p medium with FSR on perf ... 40ish fps, never under 30 during fight ... was quite playable :)
if i drop to 720p which still look fine on a 7" it get a bit more steady.
at 25W

your review confirmed it

a friend recommended me to convert my Ally to Bazzite OS when i told him i bought DA:V, well it's an option (from what i saw it's a bit more versatile than STEAM OS )
i will wait until i get a 4tb 2280 to dualboot it with Win11 2tb/2tb and if it works fine, dedicate the full 4tb later

I've been itching to check Bazzite for months, but I'm still rocking the default 512GB SSD. So, I'll also wait until I get a 2TB drive to dual boot Bazzite and Windows 11. Bazzite for Steam and Moonlight streaming (I've heard that frame times are much more stable on Linux vs. Windows) and Windows for Game Pass and benchmarking games.

Not really, the ps5 pro consumes even less than a ps5 slim yet it offers much more performance in RT, raster etc

For me the main issue behind the ps5 pro is that the RAM is much slower than GDDR6 first and they kept that ZEN 2 cpu......

RT is not important for a portable.
