I own a Gigabyte 4070Ti Gaming OC and when GPU Temp stays within the range of 50-60 degrees, the delta between the GPU temp and Hotspot usually stays within 20 degrees (see screenshots)

As soon as my GPU temp reaches 65-70+ , the hotspot can get as high as 100degrees and sometimes 105 degrees (see screenshot), which is more than 25 delta difference.

I tried to tighten a bit more the backplate screws (without removing the warranty sticker on one screw) and the result remain the same.

My case is a BeQuiet 500DX, well ventilated and ambient temp is around 21 degrees. Idle temps of GPU never exceed 34degrees with hotspot being around 42degrees. I have also installed the anti-sag provided from Gigabyte.

Is 100 degrees still considered a safe temp for the GPU hotspot ?

NB : RMA procedure is a nightmare with Gigabyte in my country, so should i consider re-pasting the gpu, even if i have to remove the warranty sticker on one screw ? Do i also have to apply new thermal pads in case of repasting the gpu ?

Why bother ? if you have 3 years warranty, most likely you will sell it in 2 years and if it fails by then, you are covered by warranty. Before doing anything, shoot an email to Gigabyte and ask them if those temps are normal and what to do. If they say it's fine, then game on !

That's actually exactly my reasoning as to why i haven't started any RMA process or repasting the gpu myself. I always re-sell my gpus once the new series drop.

I will probably contact the "slow" Gigabyte support and provide them with screenshots.

I assume that my temps are on the higher end for sure, but not to the point where i should be alarmed, since i very rarely hit 73 degrees while gaming.

It does seem a bit on the high side, but I wouldn't worry about it, you have warranty anyway

Hotspot temps are calculated values and never been an issue for consideration.

I tried to tighten a bit more the backplate screws (without removing the warranty sticker on one screw) and the result remain the same.

The four screws behind the GPU are designed to tighten to a certain point and then stop. This is to ensure the end user doesn't crack the die by overtightening. You shouldn't be able to tighten them more unless they were loose.

I'm not sure which country you are from but in any EU country / US / Canada those stickers are not enforceable and do not void your warranty. If you are not in country which protects customers against those stickers I recommend that you do not repaste. Warranty is more important that attempting to see if a repaste helps.

It sounds like you might have just gotten a bit unlucky with cooler contact variances. Vast majority of Nvidia GPUs of 20/30/40 series should fall in between 10-20C edge to hotspot delta. A 27C delta is a lot.

Peak of 73C is slightly on the warm side as well but bit harder to say without knowing about case and ambient temps at all times.

On my Eagle I have a delta of about 6C at idle, going up to about 10C or so at 285W with edge temp about 70C.

You might have better luck if you can flag down a social media rep (ie. Gigabyte reps on Reddit), as they are usually more caring about customers. USA RMA department staff are basically a bunch of zombies if you don't have communication and support of any reps.

100C hotspot temps are not cause for concern, its a tad high but it is not going to damage the hardware. That said, the thermal paste application must be bad. I only began seeing hot spot temperatures in excess of 100 with my RTX 3090 after almost 3 years of ownership. It clearly shows signs of TIM degradation, but I'm not really concerned, it's nothing major :)

Thank you everyone for your input.

I ended up undervolting the gpu @950mV running max freq at 2750MHz. Stable so far and gpu temp dropped 14 degrees, bringing the delta to a much more reasonable ~16 degrees between gpu and hotspot temp.

Won't get into the trouble of RMA as i will end up selling the GPU in 2 years and am still in warranty in case of any issues.
