ASUS: Eee PC Price No Lower Than US$200

Jonathan Tsang, president for sales and marketing at ASUSTeK Computer, has revealed that the company will announce the price tag for its Eee PC on October 16th. He also noted that prices for the product in the retail market will not be lower than US$200 with the price tag of US$199 only available for contract purchases. ASUSTeK, unveiled in June its ultra low-cost notebook, the Eee PC, at Computex Taipei 2007. The company highlighted that the Eee PC will carry a suggested retail price of US$199 at that time. Eee PC will officially hit the Taiwan market on October 16th with the initial batch of shipments no larger than 10,000 units, said ASUSTeK. The company will begin offering the product through Best Buy and Newegg in the US by the end of this month, while availability in the China market may arrive by the end of the year.

No lower than $200? Well, as long as it is $200, I'll still buy the damn thing. I've been wanting a small pseudo-notebook for a long time.

I've been waiting for something like this. I dislike these mega/ultra/super huge laptops that are the norm nowadays. They weigh a ton and still underperform. I mean, really, most notebooks nowadays are not really built for mobility or for the road. They are meant for people who either dislike desktop computers and/or are short on living space. Yes, there are some subnotebook manufactures/models out there, but they cost an arm and a leg. This seems perfect. Not everybody wants or needs a 10lb 17-inch widescreen monster notebook.
