While the Blu-ray party claims that over one million Blu-ray movies were distributed in the United Kingdom a few days back, the HD-DVD promotional group has their own victory to celebrate. Over three-quarters of a million Americans now are the proud owners of some form of HD-DVD player. This recent success is most likely due to the low-priced availability of HD-DVD players ($200 for the Toshiba HD-A2, and less than that for the HD-DVD Xbox 360 add-on drive). Considering that in June a relatively low 150,000 units were sold, this 400% increase in sales is nothing to shake a finger at. However, this rise in sales may not last. Most HD-DVD owners are movie aficionados, and most Blu-ray drive owners are gamers (thanks to the Blu-ray integration with the PS3).

I'm sure the fact that Wal-Mart and Best Buy were just selling HD-A2s for $99 helped this number greatly.

I think I am going to skip this technology completely and wait for solid state video media to come out before I jump on any bandwagon.

Movie sticks FTW !

considering the majority of the big studios are based in America the Hd-dvd lobby is pretty much gaining the foothold in the defining market. I can see Sony switching strategy soon making the players cheap and raising the cost of the disks to compensate.

Thank you Zek I cant find anything wrong with the link you put out for this newsletter.

I personally send you my condolences for what I said before though this is old news as this was already announced online yesterday about there being 750,000 players sold.:laugh:

But What I really want to say is while Even I am a HD DVD supporter I was really and truly looking for any biasness in this article too. (Its a habit my Government teacher gave to me and everybody else who took her class, which was to look for the biasness in any kind of article or news story).

Also congrats HD DVD a few months ago people thought that you were on a sinking ship but as it turns out the fight is only growing stronger with each passing month:toast:.

While I cant say this is good news for the eventual losing consumers who choose the wrong format (whichever one that will be) I can say that at least prices will go down and the cost will sting less for those consumers who buy the wrong format.

Cheers Zek:toast:

What sucked about the 99 dollar players were, they were the 720p/1080i ones and they sold out of them as soon as they came out. Seems there are alot of nerds who know this shit eveywhere!!!

I don't want to get stuck with one format. That is why I got the LG HD-DVD & Blu-ray combo drive and it is awesome.

1080i doesn't really matter in movies, and there are a lot of people out there that don't have 1080p TV, so they don't really care. There are a lot more people without 1080p TV than with, and that is what the $99 player appealed to. If you want a product to succeed you need to make it appealing to the majority.

Thank you very much that excellent post that is the point few people seem to realize.

Most LCDs are still being sold today at 720p or 1080i sure 1080p's are growing in marketshare but they are nowhere near where 720p and 1080i Are in marketshare.

This was the same mistake Sony made at first with the PS3 and it took them a year to realize that:eek::laugh::laugh::laugh:
