The Ballistix DDR3 1600 MHz CL8 Kit is Crucial's only enthusiast DDR3 offering at the moment and as such it has been placed right in the middle of the MHz and CL rating spectrum. The memory kit does actually manage speeds of almost 2 GHz and tighter timings at the stock speed of 1600 MHz.

I was looking at some reviews of ballistix pc6400 with a view to buying 2x1gb after christmas, and most of the reviewers were saying that they were getting quite poor overclocks, like 810 or 820 mhz. Is that right , coz I heard that these overclock really well ?

Wow! This is a revelation for me. I didn't know Crucial was an all-American company which implies better quality.

I can only assume they dont know how to overclock well then, Ballisix 6400's generally are good to 1220mhz @ 5-5-5-15 on 2.4V.

I would advise you to get the PC8500 Ballistix, they are SERIOUSLY quick and good to the mid 1300mhz at 5-5-5-15 or low 1100's at 4-4-4-12 no worries. it's down to the voltage and some active cooling, I think they are on the egg fro $99....if so, thats a steal! these really are some of the best DDR2 money can buy.

Edit: Lol sorry, saw where you are from! I'll let you have some of mine then in that case :)

Actually they sell pc 8500 in a shop just down the road. So you`re speaking from personal experience right ? I`m going to get a go q6600 and I want something that can keep up with it.

Well, whichever way you look at it, if you overclock the CPU to 3.8 or 4Gig you are going to need a ram divider in there so "keep up with it" is relative, anything capable of 1200mhz is damn quick, my Ballistix will do 1380mhz on 2.4V, thats not quick, thats practically DDR3 territory but the sweet thing about Ballistix in my opinion is high speeds with low timings, like 1160mhz at 4-4-4-12.

Like I said, if you are interested, could let you have the Ballistix in my siggie very cheaply after Xmas.
