Green computing has become very important in recent times. With global resources becoming scarcer and the visible impact our demands have made on our planet, it is vital for everyone - consumers as well as manufacturers, to attempt to protect our environment in every possible way. One of the best ways to achieve this is through green computing, and a good example of this is the innovative ASUS EPU technology, which saves 80.23% CPU Power.
GreenASUS Designs for a Greener Earth
Since 2000, ASUS has been carrying out a series of special initiatives and research projects, such as developing Taiwan's first lead-free motherboard and Taiwan's first Green Parts Management System. One focus of ASUS' current GreenASUS projects is Green Design - where monitoring and seeking to eliminate the use of toxic chemicals at all steps in the manufacturing process are paramount. Phasing out possible hazardous substances and reviewing and testing alternative substances have resulted in materials like bamboo used for the Ecobook notebook in the "China's Green Expedition". This is both in keeping with the Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) law and for substances not presently banned under RoHS and related laws. ASUS also constantly strives to meet and exceed international legislation on design, including the future European Union directive on Energy-using Products (EuP), which establishes a framework for setting eco-design requirements - and this has helped result in development of technologies that provide energy savings to curb excess electricity use and thus help save the environment.
ASUS Exclusive EPU Saves Up to 80.23%CPU Power
The ASUS-developed EPU is the world's first hardware-based on-demand power saving IC controller. This new generation automatic energy saving chip utilizes an innovative power technology to digitally monitor and automatically fine-tune the CPU power supply with improved VRM efficiency under any loading. With real-time automatic detection of the CPU current, the EPU can provide total control and attain the best possible power efficiency and astounding energy savings to help save the environment - providing users with more power for higher performance and saving up to 80.23% CPU power when the PC is running low intensity programs. Coupled with the innovative AI Gear3 - which features a new user interface that shows users exactly how much electricity and CO2 is being saved, the ASUS EPU can provide users with up to 50% enhanced power efficiency.
ASUS EPU's Contribution to the Earth
The ASUS EPU also helps the environment in another way. A Single EPU motherboard is able to save 33,000 watts of electricity after one year's continuous operation - about 20.7423 KG of reduced CO2 emissions. If 10 Million EPU motherboards are shipped, 207,430,000 KG CO2 can be reduced. In essence, ASUS helps the Earth grow the equivalent of 17,285,833.33 trees in a year (if a tree consumes 12Kg CO2 in a year)!
Available EPU Motherboards
As the EPU is such an important part in environment conservation, the following P35 chipset motherboards: P5K PRO, P5K/ EPU and P5K SE/EPU will be re-launched with the EPU. The new RAMPAGE FORMULA and P5E3 PREMIUM/ WiFi@n motherboards will also sport the EPU; while X38 chipsets motherboards with EPU include the MAXIMUS FORMULA, P5E3 DELUXE/ WiFi@n, P5E3 DELUXE, P5E3, P5E, P5E64 WS PRO, P5E3 DELUXE/DDR3 1333 2G, MAXIMUS Extreme and the P5E3/DDR3 1333 2G. Other motherboards that carry the EPU are the Striker II Extreme, Striker II Formula, P5N-T DELUXE and the P5N-D.
