German video card specialist Mad Moxx has released a special edition of the Sapphire X800 GTO². The Mad Moxx X800 GTO² Burstfire comes premodded with 16 pipelines out of the box. To improve cooling an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer has been installed on the card. For paying a small premium over the regular Sapphire card you can stay away from BIOS modding, aftermarket cooler installation and voiding your warranty.

What The ????

Take a look at all the scores compared to the x850xt pe. the gto2 beat it in almost ALL tests at a way lower speed! I think some testing should be done with that BIOS!

I think the difference are due to drivers not the bios. I doubt the x850xtpe was using the 6.1 Cat drivers. where as the GTO2 is.

D_o_S, could you please post the bios for that card? I'll soon be getting my x800gto2, and would like to see if that bios has been optimized in any way!

Thanks

Hi,

the Sapphire Radeon X850XT PE scores are taken from this review:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/Radeonx850xtpeagp/

please realize the following:
1)The card was for AGP, not PCI Express
2)The test system was different, as were the drivers

As Makaveli said (drivers), I think that all these factors are a possible explanation for the higher scores of the Mad Moxx X800GTO.

Hi,

Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of the BIOS :( Maybe you could send a e-mail to Mad Moxx and ask them if their BIOS is optimized, and if they could send it to you?

I hope that answers all the questions. Do not hesitate to ask if you have any more questions.

Same overclocking problem with the Sapphire card

I experienced this same problem with 2 sapphire x800GT02 cards I got. Whenever I tried to overclock them they would just shut down once they reached a certain point. It wasn't related to heat since they cards didn't really get hot, but both cards would just shut off once the clocks got to a certain point.

hmm, i wander if this has something to do with the igpu chip. You usually mod the Igpu chip if your running a large overclock/overvolt, you adjust the maximum current available before the card shuts down.

I'm curious as to whether performing the Igpu mod would resolve the problem.

D_o_S, where did you get that silicone cable wrap? I tried making some out of some silicone model plane fuel line, but had no success.

i dont think this mad moxx is based on the r480, i thinks its on the r430 as the new craps ones are based on r430 which can be unlocked to 16 but wont overclock no where near 540/590. my friend has the dual dvi gto2 with r480 and he can get 540/590 even when the fan is on a slow rpm speed. tech power up shouldnt of even struggled at all to get 540/590. any higher after is hard and will need cooling. this mad mox must have been the r430 as it has a better cooler and didnt even reach 540/590. the other gto2 can get 560/610 using that rubbish fan

Hi,

which silicone cable wrap are you refering to? On the picutre with the card installed, there are 3 types of wrap used:
1) Wrapped around cable ending with PEG connector - I bought this at an electronics store, it was super cheap
2) Wrapped around the fan connector - that's just a PVC tube (didn't have any Techflex at hand)
3)Red cable at the bottom - Techflex

Nah, those speeds aren't even remotely possible with an R430 chip. I'm sure it is an R480.

A "Good" overclock for the R430, even with good cooling is around 450mhz, there is no way it will reach 500mhz. I even performed the vgpu mod on my old x800xl, and took the voltage all the way to 1.75v, and still didn't get it any faster, it just generated more heat.

Since there are only two possible GPU's it could have, shadowflare's right, it could only be the R480.

i dont find it unusual for a core to simply crash when its run to fast.. mine does and so have most or the grfx cards i have owned.. ????

the way around it is to apply more voltage or slow it down.. he he he.. looking for other obscure work arounds is looking for ghosts..

u cant go on average clocks either just based on one card.. others might go better.. some might even go worse..

i do wonder why they dont clock it a little faster out of the box thow.. especially the memory..

I have a theory that you could perform the Igpu mod, as the current shutoff circuit may be shutting the card off too early. I'd like to try it, but all my cards have worked perfectly. Though saying that i did have the problem on my ATI 9000 32mb in my old laptop. Unfortunatly that's now dead :(

I'm not sure what to think of it. I mean, cards like these take all the fun out of modding it yourself lol. I'd rather buy a card and then mod it myself instead of buy a card premodded.

has anyone bought one of these yet? I would really like to get hold of the bios from one of these.
