Hey you lot, I have a question on whether the 9800x3d is overkill for a 1440p gaming setup. I'm currently on a Ryzen 7 5700x and looking to upgrade to an am5 build through Micro centers bundle system, and their 9800x3d bundle looks appealing to me. Still, I'm wondering if its even necessary if I plan on gaming strictly at 1440p. I'm currently running a RTX 3080 but plan on upgrading to a RX 9070 XT this summer once prices go down. Will the extra money I spend on the 9800x3d be worth it or should I go for a cheaper option? Any help is highly appreciated.

Seems to me the main question here is why the op feels the need to upgrade, from the 5700x.
I game at 1440p with a 9800x3d+3080, and previously with a 9900k. Most games already ran around 100fps except for some where even low graphics settings didn't do much.
So now with the 9800x3d I gained roughly about 30% in most games, some games less.
But that changes with a more powerful gpu. so yes, if you're looking at a bundle, and feel your current system is lacking atm, then go for it. It's the best for now, and will last you some years to come.

The 1440p sweet spot assuming 144hz is anything around a 4080/9070xt equivalent and literally any cpu... if you are planning to play competitive esports or upgrading to an oled 240hz panel then the X3D CPUs will make sense to spend on.
