Advantech, a global leader in industrial flash storage solutions, introduces the SQFlash EDSFF and EU-2 PCIe Gen 5 x4 SSDs, designed to meet the demands of next-generation enterprise and data center applications. Till 2024, PCIe Gen 4 solutions accounted for 50% of the market, and PCIe Gen 5 products are rapidly gaining traction across diverse applications. Among PCIe storage products, form factors such as U.2, E3.S, and E1.S are driving market growth.

The SQFlash E1.S SSD, built on the EDSFF standard, delivers exceptional performance with PCIe Gen 5 read and write speeds of up to 14,000 MB/s and 8,500 MB/s, respectively, while offering scalability, power efficiency, and thermal optimization. Meanwhile, the SQFlash EU-2 PCIe Gen.5 x4 SSD leverages cutting-edge PCIe 5.0 technology, setting new standards in speed, reliability, and thermal management, making it ideal for data centers, enterprise computing, real-time analytics, and AI-driven workloads.

These new solutions highlight Advantech's commitment to advancing high-performance storage technologies for modern computing environments.

High-Speed Read/Write Performance
The EDSFF and SQFlash EU-2 U.2 & E3.S SSDs exemplify the next generation of high-performance storage solutions, designed to meet the demands of hyperscale, enterprise, and data-intensive applications. The E1.S form factor stands out with its greater flexibility and higher power budget than traditional M.2 SSDs. While M.2 SSDs typically support up to 12 W, E1.S supports up to 20 W, enabling full utilization of PCIe 4.0 (16 GT/s x4), PCIe 5.0 (32 GT/s x4), and even PCIe 6.0 (64 GT/s x4) bandwidths, depending on drive capacity. This enhanced power capacity and performance make E1.S ideal for hyperscale and enterprise environments that demand robust scalability and high performance.

The SQFlash EU-2 U.2 and E3.S SSDs utilize the PCIe Gen 5 x4 interface to deliver exceptional performance, achieving sequential read speeds of up to 14,000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 8,500 MB/s—twice the speed of Gen 4 SSDs. Built on the latest NVMe 2.0 protocol, these SSDs fully optimize PCIe Gen.5 bandwidth, ensuring efficient, high-speed communication with the host system. This results in reduced latency, faster data transfers, and improved overall system responsiveness. These advanced storage solutions set a new benchmark for speed, scalability, and power efficiency, catering to the rigorous demands of modern computing environments.

Physical Serviceability—Hot Plug Support
Unlike traditional M.2 SSDs, which require powering down the entire server and removing it from the rack for replacement, the EDSFF (E1.S & E3.S) SSDs support hot-swapping directly from the front of the server, eliminating the need for a full shutdown. This feature significantly enhances serviceability and saves valuable time during maintenance.

Higher Capacity
The EDSFF form factor and SQFlash EU-2 SSD showcase advancements in storage design, delivering high capacity with energy efficiency to meet the needs of modern data centers and enterprise applications. The E1.S form factor is engineered to maximize space for flash memory, enabling higher-capacity SSDs. Measuring 33.75 mm wide and 118.75 mm long, it is larger than the standard M.2 SSD (22 mm wide and 110 mm long). This increased size allows the E1.S to house more flash memory chips, which can be arranged vertically within a 1U chassis, providing greater storage density and scalability.

The SQFlash EU-2 SSD is designed for energy efficiency, consuming less than 9 W in idle mode while maintaining high performance. It features advanced power management, including low-power states and dynamic power scaling, which adjust energy usage based on workload demands. This efficiency makes the SQFlash EU-2 an ideal solution for large-scale data centers and other environments where reducing power consumption is critical. These advancements strike a balance between performance, capacity, and energy efficiency, setting a new benchmark for storage solutions in high-demand applications.

The system supports NVMe 2.0 with single-port operation, providing high compatibility and ease of integration with existing systems. Enterprise features such as namespaces and reservations enhance data management and security, enabling multiple users to safely and efficiently access and manage data. Metadata protection ensures data integrity and security, which is crucial for enterprise applications that handle sensitive information.

Each product in the SQFlash EU-2 series (U.2, E3.S & E1.S) supports a hot-plug mechanism, which effectively reduces the cost of system downtime.
