Just wondered if we have anyone who could do some sort of alder lake overclocking guide.

I have a 12700k a nice asus z690-a Strix board and 8pack 2x16gb B die 3600 16/16/16/38 ram but haven't really OC for a while, these ADL CPU's have a ton of settings in the bios i have no clue about. I'm sure there are a few bods on here with them, so a OC guide would be nice.

I know I'm going to catch shit for saying this, but the whole idea with these chips is that you don't need to. Look at W1zzards reviews, I know he said with the 12900k it's pointless (my words). I can only assume the same rings true with your 12700k.

I was actually thinking it would probably be as much a case of needing an unervolting/ underC thread.

With mine (12900k) it took a few bios clicks to control the heat, but otherwise it's a beast on its own.

I think it definitely is a beast but in some use cases you would choose to detune it a bit ,I am thinking 24/7 crunching for that it really would be a beast Even at more efficient power levels.
Some would just smile at the ppd though :)

And I say this as a guy who detunes everything yet optimisis too, max for reasonable style.

Just having a play around. i have set vcore to 1.32v and P core multis to 1/2-53 3/4/5-52 6/7/8-51 E core multi to 41 mem is at 3800 18/22/22/36 (meant to try them at 16/16/6/38)
Here is a CPUz val-

cpu-z val.jpg

I'll give R23 another run too se what its like.

Don't really need to OC it, but that's what we do isn't it.

I have a good custom loop so heat should be ok.

I was wondering the same thing. The last part needed for my new 12700K/ASRock Z690 Steel Legend WiFi build (the LGA 1700 mounting hardware) finally arrived from Arctic this morning. I've been looking at things online including here but would like to have everything in one spot to follow for getting the maximum performance out of it. I'm not a gamer and plan to use it for A/V production.

Like Zen 3, the auto settings already push these things to the max.

You're really just tweaking the power limits and undervolt to get efficiency, more than anything else
(Like how my 5800x can do 5.05GHz low threaded for gaming at stock, but people who want MT go for 4.6GHz all core instead)

Yep it would be good to get a base guide, especially for the 12700K...I have played around a bit on per core and it does make a difference with a CB R23 score just fractionally above 27K...but the vcore is a bit all over the place even with an adaptive vcore. Under volting is an area that I can think can be very good but struggling..Still not up to speed on the Alder Lake side as it seems to be a bit more complicated than my previous Z490 which was a doddle..Maybe I am just getting old.

On the plus side, cooling on the 12700K seems very good and I would think the same would apply to the 12600K.

I have had a look at his guides but boy there is a lot to understand!

there is like at least half a Ghz left on the E Cores, Ring and a couple 100Mhz on the P Cores.

my 12600k ended up being a lot faster with an overclock. (+600Mhz on the E Cores, 600Mhz on the Ring and 500Mhz on the P Cores (all core))

He has a great guide on overclocking Alder Lake's iGPU. Just out of curiosity I cranked mine to ~2.2ghz which amounted to around x1.5 in Heaven and Superposition (He overclocked his to almost 2.4ghz, which is crazy considering stock is 1550). And at that clock speed the scores are not too shabby for a 32EU part. Pure speculation obviously, but this makes me excited for Intel's discrete GPUs as they're similar arch to what's in Alder Lake. They obviously won't scale linearly with the rising number of EUs but I'm almost 100% certain now that they're gonna beat or at least be around 3070ti in raster, even if it would probably take at least 350W in power usage.

I spent Christmas Eve doing the final assembly of my 12700K/ASRock Z690 Steel Legend WiFi build then installing Windows 11. With the new Alder Lake technology there's a lot to learn about getting maximum performance out of them. So far I'm at stock defaults other than setting XMP for the G-Skill TridentZ DDR4 3600 C16 I'm using for the time being. I haven't played around with it yet but the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 w/4 140mm Silver Stone FHP-141's in push/pull at full speed (171cfm each) externally mounted on top of my Cooler Master Cosmos II seems to do a very good job of keeping the CPU cool. The warmest it got doing anything was 22 degrees C. I'm sure after it's ready for benchmarking that number will rise significantly on some programs.

Windows 11 is another story though. I'm not impressed at all with it compared to Win 10 Enterprise LTSC. I went with 11 for the initial installation because of the scheduler for Alder Lake CPU's. I took today off from computer activities and will resume exploring 11 more tomorrow before going after any overclocking efforts. I don't think I'll be at any loss for power with the Seasonic Prime GX-1300 I used for the build so I definitely have the PSU and cooling bases covered on this one.

IMO if you have a ADL CPU it is better to use win 11 for the scheduler.
