Alienware has just launched what it is claiming to be "the world's fastest gaming desktop." The Area-51 ALX CFX comes equipped with a quad-core Intel Core 2 Extreme processor, overclocked from a stock speed of 3.0GHz to 4.0GHz with the aid of liquid cooling. It also features an Intel X38 Express chipset, up to 4GB DDR3 RAM at 1333MHz, the option of dual Radeon HD 3870 X2s running in CrossFireX and a range of hard drive capacities up to 2TB (including two 64GB solid-state drives), all powered by a 1000W PSU. To get maximum performance you'll need to spend a minimum of $7,488, but if you want a few extra bells and whistles such as acoustic dampening, system lighting and a better keyboard you could easily surpass the $10,000 mark.

These do look good. I like the styling of Alien Ware computers. Of course one can built a similiar system for a lot less!!! But some other people just don't want to build their own pc, but stile want to have top notch equipment.

I would build a system like that in a Cosmos S case.

I Find the Alien ware case attractive, but I really don't like to have a front door to open to acces my optical drive. It does look better, but it is just annoying to use.

The cosmos S looks pretty sweet, and is filled with top notch features, plus there are no doors on the facia!!

Could any one tell me what chipset is best for crossfireX applications? I like the spider platform concept, but feel that AMD's CPU are just not where they should be. Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing AMD, I actually run a X2 5600 + right now (She is clocked faster than a stock 6000+ and is stable as stock) But the phenom family has had more than it's share of mishaps and performance issues.

no one should EVER be able to justifiy 10 grand USD or 5 grand GBP for a PC no matter what its specs are. in a few months' time it'll get superceded anyway.

I have a Cosmos 1000 as my HTPC case in my living room and its much better than the Cosmos S and quieter. But the only downside to it is the case, before the components are installed, already weighs like 20lbs. Its not a problem for me because I weightlift every other day, but with your typical weakling geek, they might get a hernia.

YES we could...Actually planning on building another real soon using all AMD components...with a new model lian li case (the A70b) and swiftec water cooling and dual X2's, a Gateway 24" monitor, 1200 watt Tuniq psu, and whatever "high end" Phenom proc is available in 6 months, plus whatever odds and ends I always end up having to buy...I've estimated it at about 3700 bucks . :toast:

I really like the case. But that's about it, I would never in my life pay that amount of cash for a prebuilt...
