Hey guys. When I play BF 2042, after a few minutes of gameplay, my laptop's processor is capped between 25-30w, causing terrible fps drops.

What can it be? Power Throttle? EC Throttle? AWCC trash?

If I put the above settings, the processor stays at 45w. However, after about 20 minutes of gameplay, Windows hibernates.


CPU temperature limit: 100ºC. 3070TI temperature limit: 86ºC. 240w power source (from Dell).

Clear the Sync MMIO box and press Apply. Check the MMIO Lock box near the top right of the TPL window.

If you are still setting PL1 power limit throttling in the log file at 25W to 30W then have a look for the Intel Dynamic Tuning driver. Delete it and prevent Windows from re-installing this driver. That might help. If that does not solve this low power / low performance problem then ask Dell for your money back. The hardware they sold you cannot be fully used because of the throttling issues that they have built into your Alienware laptop.

If you are running any Dell power plan software, make sure it is set to maximum performance.

All of the above. It is probably the EC that is force feeding the CPU with low ball power limits which causes constant power limit throttling. Trash sums it up. Over promise and under deliver. Not a great business model but it seems to work for them. I would have boxed it back up and told Dell that they can keep it. The CPU slows down to under 1400 MHz. That is pathetic for a supposed high performance laptop.

Sorry for the mistakes.

After implementing your setting/sugestion (Clear the Sync MMIO box and press Apply. Check the MMIO Lock box near the top right of the TPL window.), the system continues to hibernate after a few minutes of gameplay. The problem is not temperature, as this even occurs with the CPU being limited to 90ºC via BIOS. Something else to be done?

It would be best to contact Dell for an explanation. Check your Windows power plan settings. Maybe there is some hidden setting in there that is causing this problem.

I solved the problem by simply disabling Windows hibernation, using the command "powercfg.exe /hibernate off". Now, using TS, I can always keep the processor at 45W, overcoming Dell's EC limiter.

Limiting PL2 also helped to prevent the CPU from reaching 100ºC in game menus, a common 12700h issue.
