If you are not having problems, dont update bios. Especially on AM4 platforms.

AM4 is a mess.

Totally cool for the consumer and all but its a mess. To much stuff to be supported, plagued by USB/chipset problems.
So if you have an agesa that works, stick with that.
Google is your friend here. And you'd be more informed next time you talk about this.

Personal opinion is that if you've got it set up the way you want/tuned/stable, don't touch it. Only update if there's a (supposed) fix for something you're having issues with. Unless playing in the BIOS is your thing.

Already replied above.

To many CPU's supported that lead to problems.
Serious USB problems.
AGESAS are all over the place in terms of reliability.
Ppl like to bash intel but theres a reason they only use one socket per generation (2 max).
Even AMD knew that, they tried to backtrack the promises of compatibility on past chipsets.

Love it but its a mess.
Just a blind man cant see that.

AGESA 1.0.0.4 is for AM5 platform :)

Well, my bad, thought it was an early iteration of am4 agesa.

My point still stands though. Both of them. AM4 is kinda of a mess and dont update bios if you arent having problems.

And that's great for you.

But if you step out of that bubble you'd quickly see am4 is a mess.

I also never got problems that agesa updates and downgrades didn't fix but I know I'm just lucky.
People were turned off AMD forever with am4 and some of the problems never got fixed, usb's dropouts on the chipset being one. People will try to say that is solved, try to search for that by date.
I've owned b350, b450 and now b550. Also owned 2600, 3600 and now 5600x.
I now a bit about this platform. :) Love it, but I know its a mess.

edit:
Went on a bit of a search:

5 months ago:
Was the USB dropout bug ever fixed? : Amd (reddit.com)

Half the people with problems, half claiming they don't.

This one is also enlightening, last year:

Spent the weekend troubleshooting and fixing the notoriously hard to replicate AM4 USB disconnectivity issue. It was hard to find info about and I hope this helps others. : Amd (reddit.com)

____________

I did have USB problems on b450, that I fixed with agesa updates so I can understand the frustration of some people.
Because this isnt hardware, its shitty am4 agesas and they never fixed it for everyone. I considerer myself lucky.

If your PC is working great, then don't bother untill you need too for some sort of upgrade.

That been said, I have updated my bios on AM4 platforms and the only major issue i had, was
when I went to an "unsupported" bios for my 5800x3d, it wouldn't boost. My fault, just wanted to see what would happen.
I have run most of the bios's, including an early one just to see if I could install W7 and no issues that I can remember.

Yes for AM4. AMD probably should not use the same exact naming conventions here. It's going to get confusing in a few years.

1.2.0.8 is actually in the wild as well. Not all manufacturers have released an update so far.
Do you know which manufacturers are good at releasing updates quickly? so far MSI haven't released an update yet.

No thanks, ignorance is bliss :toast:

I just came to see what the fuss was about with Ryzen, specifically Zen 3.

They make good stuff but I don't like the way they do some things, so I will be back to Intel for my next build.

I have only used B550, but my time with AM4 has been trouble free, hassle free, and a pleasure to use and abuse.

I've personally had an absolutely rotten experience with socket AM4, the chipsets and AMD support. I had to retire a perfectly working (and great) motherboard (Crosshair 6 Hero) because AMD decided to refuse issuing updates for over a year to it based on its chipset model (infamous X370 + Zen 3 BIOS ROM capacity lie - ASUS would eventually update but just ask ASRock about the cease and desist they received from AMD for updating the X370 Taichi...), so I sold it and sidegraded to the B550-E to purchase my 5950X, ran into every possible problem that the AGESA v2 family had, including but not limited to:

- Major issue with USB bus constantly crashing on 1.1.8.0 > 1.2.0.2, leading to dropouts and system instability (also broken audio, keyboard loss, etc.)
- fTPM stuttering (fixed only in 1.2.0.6 and newer)
- Incorrect memory training causing boot issues until the very latest 1.2.0.7 BIOS, earlier the BIOS worse these problems were, 1.1.x series only booted my memory kit at 3466 and below
- EDC bug on post-5800X3D AGESA versions (newer than 1.2.0.3 C), causing current limiter to be applied to all CPUs (including regular Ryzens) when EDC exceeded stock processor fused value, reducing performance and effectively blocking PBO from working - this issue is unresolved to this day and is likely to never be fixed
- Multiple chipset driver related BSODs throughout

When it worked, it was bliss, but I'm just gonna have to agree with @lawood, if AM4 decided to give you trouble, you would be in one hell of a tough spot...

I hear AM5 is doing pretty great (aside from a botched update that was pulled recently), so that's good to hear. AMD really needs to work on their AGESA support, since it seems so critical for the CPU's functionality. I'm... too old to debug all this nonsense, I've lost interest, so taking advantage of the window that the GPU market left open and moving back to Intel. I've had it, man. I really did.

For tech savy people am4 is amazing, it will work, granted you are willing to mess with some bios settings if you're on a less ideal agesa for your particular system.
I had pretty bad usb problems on the b450, that was fixed with 1.2.0.6c bios.
I have 4 mice because of this, i was going crazy thinking i was screwing up all my cables, after that update everything just worked, and bonus, now I have mice for decades to come. :)
And all the voltages were the same between the bios, soc, iod, ccd etc... this is not a voltage or power delivery problem. I even swapped my PSU at the time.
The problems also happened on both the 3600 and 5600x so we can rule out bad cpu controllers.

And even after all these issues I decided to get a b550, so I like the platform and I dont mind a bit of troubleshooting if problems appear, and I did have a single USB disconnect (mouse AGAIN) on the new MB, turned off the system, updated to 1.2.0.7 and never had any problems since then. . DAC+Mic, keyboard, mouse and one usb 3.0 hub all connected without a single problem.

But for some people that want the PC to just work i wouldn't really recommend it, you can see ppl even on 2023 with USB issues if you look around, granted much of those problems can be fixed with bios updates, but for the least savy that could be a challenge. And even then, the possibility of not working 100% exists.

People dont like to hear this but am4 has problems that has never been ironed out, sure agesas fixes most of it but problems are still present.

Pretending it doesn't exist is not the way to go. It does exist and people need to be wary of it and be sure youll get pushback when you say "everything is fine" because your experience is only that, one single person. Be thankfull you never got any problems, I will say that. :rockout:

It's.... ok. It appears the slow post issue is here to stay. The latest AGESA (the 1.0.0.4 patch to fix the 1.0.0.4 that stopped dual CCD 7600x's from booting) made my stable-since-launch CO unstable. I finally had enough a couple of weeks ago so no more AM5 for me.

I think it was the B-Die memory that kept everything together :D

I cant speak for USB problems, but a lot of the memory problems I see are from everything that isn't running Samsung B-Die :kookoo:

But that is probably just crazy talk on my part
