I have an aging Intel based system, but my 1TB SSD is fairly new, and is a M.2 NVMe. I'm going to be building a new AMD Ryzen 3rd Gen system.
I might be reading this wrong, but every AMD (AM4) motherboard I look at, all the M.2 slots are listed as just M.2 SATA, I don't see any mention of a M.2 listed as NVMe. Or is it the deal that M.2 NVMe has become mainstream, and they have dropped the "NVMe" from the M.2 description?
I need to make sure I can transfer my M.2 NVMe to a new AMD (AM4) motherboard.
Just one of the boards I was looking at:
GIGABYTE X570 AORUS ULTRA AMD Ryzen 3000 PCIe 4.0 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.2 AMD X570 ATX Motherboard.
6 x SATA 6Gb/s
M.2
Integrated in the CPU (M2A_SOCKET):
3rd Generation AMD Ryzen processors:
1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 SATA and PCIe 4.0 x4/x2 SSD support)
2nd Generation AMD Ryzen processors / 2nd Generation AMD Ryzen with Radeon Vega Graphics processors / AMD Ryzen with Radeon Vega Graphics processors:
1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 SATA and PCIe 3.0 x4/x2 SSD support)
Integrated in the Chipset (M2B_SOCKET/M2C_SOCKET):
1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 SATA and PCIe 4.0*/3.0 x4/x2 SSD support) (M2B_SOCKET)
* For 3rd Generation AMD Ryzen processors only.
