David McAfee—AMD's corporate vice president and general manager of client channel business—has highlighted February 28 as a highly important date for next-gen graphics technology. The much-anticipated (and teased) Radeon RX 9000 series unveiling event has a confirmed time slot on that day: 8 AM EST. The overseer of Ryzen CPU and Radeon GPUs has warded off curious queries from journalists and members of the PC hardware for several weeks, since the conclusion of CES 2025. A confusing early January presentation did not include a segment dedicated to upcoming RDNA 4 products. Online conjecture pointed to Team Red delaying and restrategizing the launch of Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 models.

AMD enthusiasts will breathe a collective sigh of relief, after reading McAfee's announcement: "the wait is almost over. Join us on February 28 at 8 AM EST for the reveal of the next-gen AMD Radeon RX 9000 Series. Get ready to make it yours when it hits shelves in early March. RSVP by subscribing to the AMD YouTube channel." Insider sources reckon that retailers will have stock on shelves by the rumored March 6 launch day. Mid-to-late January leaks suggested a fairly comprehensive distribution of board partner custom cards across European retail channels. Alleged specifications and performance results have leaked out over the past month and a half—will AMD (and AIBs) have any surprises lined up for the February 28 event?

It's obvious that AMD wants to be sure what Nvidia will do with RTX 5070. Nvidia reaffirms the 5070 Ti and 5070 dates and AMD follows. Obviously RTX 9070 will hit retail AFTER RTX 5070 hits retail.

I hope this is a real start toward AMD being competitive in the PC GPU market.

Why wait over a week after the 5070 Ti launch? Was hoping to get info before 5070 Ti launch. With GPUs being hard to get nowadays I might as well try for a 5070 Ti next week...

AMD wants to see the 5070's on store selves with the MSRP Nvidia has announced, before putting a price tag on the RX 9070. They don't want to announce RTX 9070 XT at $700 and RX 9070 at $600 only to hear Nvidia discounting the 5070 Ti and the 5070, just before those cards go on sale.
Nvidia can announce a $100 discount on 5070 and 5070 Ti at any time they want, considering only a few cards will be sold at those levels. The rest will just skyrocket way above MSRP, because of supply constrains and high demand. But a move like that could make many to just wait in front of their screens refreshing store pages until they see the Nvidia cards available at prices close to Nvidia's MSRP.

Pretty sure they realized Nvidia wont ship any significant volume of 50 series cards any time soon, it does not matter.

"in February" they said.

It's so late in February that they have to hold it at 8am because it'll be March for 2 billion people before the event ends.

When tech companies promise something in Q1, I assume they mean 11:59pm on March 31st.
When tech companies promise something in 2025, I assume they mean 11:59pm on December 31st.

At least they're not as bad as game developers at estimating dates :D

No, it's Aikido. Wait for your bigger opponent to strike, then use his own momentum to take him out. Whether it'll work will depend on the price, performance and availability.

Yeah, about that... it just so happens that the momentum was right at CES when nVidia gave specs AND prices AND release timelines. The full package. And then, the cowards at AMD flaked out. Another great AMD moment.
