The Ryzen 7 7700 is AMD's most affordable eight-core Zen 4 processor. For $330 you even get a good cooler included that features RGB illumination. Performance data in our review confirms that the 7700 non-X offers pretty much the same performance as the 7700X.

Well, just goes to show you how dumb the maxed out Wattage on the X CPUs was.

50W savings in MT, 20C lower temps and only 5% performance loss in worst case scenarios.

Just like what nVidia did with 40 series of GPUs, those X were pushed beyond efficiency limit, also there is an option to use Eco Mode on most AM5 boards anyway which makes this SKU quite odd.

I guess a lot of users have no clue how to even get into BIOS in order to change the settings, and most probably have no idea that the ECO modes exist.

Would rather wait for 3DVcache parts than these non-X CPUs(maybe except for 7900).
Same, but it just goes to show that we dont need 170W parts to get near similar levels of perf. Confirming pretty much what all the tech outlets have been saying.

@W1zzard nice work fella.

Non-X versions run significantly cooler. There is little to no performance loss. This is an advantage. Cooling can be taken care of with a cheaper cooler.

100% this, that's why I focus a lot on the stock experience in my reviews

12600k is also very good. These results surprise me. My only issue is that DDR4 memory slows this performance down a bit. DDR5 was pretty expensive here, so I went with the DDR4 I had.

I'm using DDR5 6000 36-36-36-76. (and yeah it was over 300 EUR when I bought these sticks 2x16GB)

You can run those at 30-34-34-58 and 65536 trefi quite easily. Just bump the dram voltage to 1.435 and that's it

I tried to figured out the benefit of such a setup? +0.1% real world performance and more in synthetic benchmarks?

What's the benefit of going 6000 ddr5 instead of cheaper 5200 then?

Because frequency is way more important than timings?

From all the motherboards I've tested, boot time for 32GB is anywhere from 20- seconds to 1 minute. Asus context restore just like other vendors implementation, skips the sub-timimgs training that happens for every boot. It uses the previous training for the next boot until you lose power to the MB or clear CMOS.

With this enabled, boot times drop to 17-25 seconds depending on the motherboard.

The purchase has already been made as far as I understand. Don't try to shift the issue. Trickster! Increasing voltage for no real benefit is what I mean.

I'm just waiting for 7800 X3D reviews next month, anyone know what day those reviews come out? I want to set a reminder in my phone.

Why the actual f**k did AMD not lead the AM5 launch with these CPUs instead of the X parts?

Oh right, greed, that's it. And look where that got them.

I've been complaining about extremely long boot times in my original Zen 4 reviews, and AMD assured us that these are fixed. To my surprise nothing was fixed and the new 65 W CPU models took just as long to boot—30 seconds or more—every single time. Turns out that on ASUS motherboards you need to enable the "Memory Context Restore" BIOS option, which saves some memory training info after the first attempt and reuses that on subsequent reboots. Kinda dumb that the option is turned off by default, even on the latest 0805 BIOS from last month. With "Memory Context Restore" enabled, boot times are still longer than on other platforms, but only by a few seconds and are now in a range that I would call "acceptable."

Will this problem get fixed ?
Is this bound with the Motehrboard or something ? The others brands do it better ?
I'm asking, because it's really great to have a PC starting in les than 10s these days, faster than a PS4 ...
When i'm reading +30s at launch, i fell like a big step back ...

So, the 7700X vs. 7700 was an exact rehash of the 5800X vs. 5700X, and there's zero reason why Zen 4 can't have equally manageable thermals as Zen 3 without dipping below 5GHz. Way too much PPT + (maybe) high Vcore to compensate for lower quality early N5 silicon = inferno on 7700X

Look at the all-core sustained clocks - 7700 is barely behind by 100MHz, a difference that can probably even be overcome purely with a larger Curve Optimizer offset (which doesn't affect thermals at the same PPT).

AMD tried to justify it with their horseshit "95C is the new normal, it boosts opportunistically", when in reality Precision Boost still functions the same way it did on Zen 3 and the excuse was just to cover for their pricing decisions/early production SP.

Improved V-F bodes well for the X3D parts though. We're what, 3 months past launch?
