A little specific to this motherboard, but just want to ensure I am reading this correctly. Moyherboard is an ASRock X370 Killer SLI/AC, going to update BIOS for a Ryzen 3700X soon more than likely.

Currently I have BIOS version 4.70. These are all the BIOS versions:

1) Install - within Windows (?):
AMD all in 1 with VGA driver ver:18.50.16.01_WHQL

2) BIOS - flash to 5.10

3) BIOS - flash to 5.40

Can I skip the "AMD all in 1 with VGA driver ver:18.10.20_NHDA" version and go straight the the WHQL release before updating the BIOS to 5.10?

Never had to install drivers prior to a BIOS update before so I am just double checking.

bios has nothing to do with drivers, go ahead and flash from dos/thumb drive,; after you get the new proc you may install drivers, as i see it

If you have Raven Ridge CPU and currently using the integrated Vega 8 GPU, you must update drivers to v18.50.16.01 before updating the BIOS.

Thanks. On a 2700X, moving to a 3700X so I assume it isn't necessary?

Thanks for the replies, installed latest chipset drivers just in case. Updated BIOS and everything so far looks good with one minor exception.

Went from BIOS version 4.70 to 5.40 today; installed the new VGA drivers as suggested on ASRock's website.

Using the same Cryorig H7 CPU cooler and Noctua thermal paste/grease which was cleaned prior to reinstalling.

At start up I am experiencing a loud fan noise, sounds like the CPU PWM fan running at full speed, which runs for around 6-8 seconds until the BIOS screen clears and Windows loads. Never had this with my Ryzen 1600 or 2700X (same motherboard for all three). Tried playing with the CPU fan settings in the BIOS and turned it to silent, performance and standard but each time the PC enters the POST where the BIOS screen flashes the CPU fan hits full RPM. Suffice to say, it does annoy me even if it only occurs at startup/restart.

This is the motherboard in question with the manual here:

Any suggestions to avoid that annoyingly loud fan spooling up each time I turn on or restart my PC? The CPU temps in Windows itself look about on par with the 2700X.

Clear cmos, then report your finding, if it levels off i wouldnt really worry about it. If anything Id use a potentiometer adjustment.

@Flogger23m

Going to give this a try. Looks like for certain CPUs it may cause an issue but don't see anything that would be a problem for the 3700X.

Will let you know how it works.

Just make sure you have the all in 1 driver before installing it

Have this version or higher installed: AMD all in 1 with VGA driver ver:18.50.16.01_WHQL

Just tried the new BIOS as well, so far it looks good but the GPU fans still ramp up at full speed during boot. Probably not much else I can try aside from resetting the CMOS which I am thinking of trying via the jumper method.

Yes do a hard reset on the CMOS

Didn't seem to do the trick, at least with the jumper. Will try removing the battery next as that seems like it will clear more values according to the manual.
