Assasin vs evo 212

Im buying a budget cooler for my 5600x to replace default cooler. Both coolers i can get for 20€, assasin new from amazon, evo 212 second hand.

1) thermalright assassin x 120 r se
2) cooler master evo 212 black

Sadly i couldn't find any review with both coolers in it, but this review shows assasin is close to noctua nh-d15 (original one) and separate review shows nh-d15 being much better than evo 212. Did i miss somethingor is assasin a much better buy for this price ? Just to make sure ur looking at the right assasin, its a single tower with 4 heatpipes, on tomshardware it won best budget cooler award.

I would say the Coolermaster has the edge because it has this bit here...

Otherwise its down to the design of the fans and which moves more air. They shouldnt be too different from one another though.

I think that CM fan spins almost 1000rpm faster although not sure anyone wants to hear that

Could also be a lot quieter due to the blade design. I know the fan on the Thermalright can get fairly loud. I have two of them strapped to my heatsink.

I think they are both using fluid bearings.

Did anyone happen to find any direct comparison between the two ? Fans arent important since i already have better fans ready. I just want to know which will perform better with 2 quality fans.

cooler master evo 212 black
FYI, may want to double check to see if it's a EVO

From a differences perspective,
the Hyper 212 Black is NOT the same cooler as the Hyper 212 Black Edition, nor is it the same as the Hyper 212 Black Edition with LGA1700. The Hyper 212 Black is newer, sports a metal plate across the top with Cooler Master’s logo, a different fan, and has different socket compatibility. Quite frankly the product names are confusing, so double and triple-check the version that you’re looking at.

I would take the CM because of my previous post. But either way. it just boils down to whichever is more convenient for you. They'll both perform around the same as each other. The CM has that little more surface area.

doubtful you would see a real difference between those four pipe heatsinks and they are a bit thin for two fans

In the end i just ordered the thermalright cooler for 26€/$. Since tomshardware has it as the best budget option, i think it should be ok for my 5600x. A shame that there isnt much comparison to be found for hyper 212 since that used to be the go to option. But yeah, its 26$ and it should be up to 20C better than my wraith stealth which is plenty. Tnx

I would pay to see a comparison. Any cooler will be overkill for me but browsing online it really gave me an itch to see a head to head comparison. The best i could do is find comparison of both coolers to wraith prism and judging by that they should be close enough. But assasin is supposed to be quieter.

Ask around for a wraith prism. It'll clip right on. Someone has to have one laying around might snag free from a buddy?

I think I was able to get my 5600X to do ~130w with PBO, and around 155w static..

Had my kids at 4.6ghz all core. maybe a little positive soc and a little kick to LLC. 5600G, was a decent chip. :)

But I guess the case isn't quite fit well for tower coolers though now I think of it. Maybe a short one.

This one

Its very very long in the tooth
I have the original, that's why I hate it, it is such a piece of junk. I couldn't throw it away, I had to keep it as a reminder. So it is in a bag, in a box somewhere.. I have the mounting hardware, but it is too old for AM4..

Feck that cooler :)

Edit:

The box it came in was literally nicer than the cooler :banghead:

When it came out what 15-years ago it was a mid range/Entry level Cooler then. Better than the intel boxed cooler.

The 212 I had was a PITA to install. The Assassin has one of the easier installs for an air cooler. The truth is the Assassin is as good as Noctua.

Sadly don't have Assassins anymore. I've been using Fuma 2's for my server which has the same temperature as the original 212 but can handle 30w more. Socket isn't very different either.

Assassins are better than Fumas, if that helps. Better at getting rid of heat overall and even the minis are fantastic.
