ASUS today announced the availability of RT-AXE7800, a WiFi 6E router offering up to 7800 Mbps of bandwidth and robust network security. Geared up with the new 6 GHz band, it's designed to scale to the connectivity demands of those who need to deal with a large number of devices, such as hybrid workers and professional studios. WiFi 6E has up to seven additional high-speed 160 MHz channels, enabling multi-gigabit speeds with stable and consistent connections. It dramatically increases network capacity while reducing congestion, delivering higher performance for every WiFi 6E device.

ASUS RT-AXE7800, powered by a 1.7 GHz quad-core 64-bit Broadcom CPU, leverages the new 6 GHz band to deliver ultrafast data throughput for a seamless user experiences, especially for increasing needs of hybrid workers and small businesses. RT-AXE7800 is also fully compatible with ASUS AiMesh. Users can easily expand their wireless network with AiMesh-compatible routers and enjoy powerful, flexible and seamless whole-home WiFi.

ASUS-exclusive Safe Browsing
The internet can contain inappropriate content, intrusive ads or other dangers and safety risks. The ASUS Safe Browsing feature in RT-AXE7800 helps block undesirable content in one tap—with no extra apps required. Its lightweight DNS-based filtering won't affect router performance. It can even filter explicit content from search engine results to help protect kids online.

Enhanced security anywhere
A free lifetime subscription to AiProtection Pro powered by Trend Micro provides commercial-grade network security with automatic, regularly updated security signatures to protect devices and personal data from internet threats.

When users are away from home, the ASUS Instant Guard mobile app provides one-tap secure internet access via RT-AXE7800, thanks to its encrypted VPN tunneling technology. This newly upgraded app even lets users easily share this worry-free network connection with family and friends through a URL link that can be added to an email or text message.

The built-in VPN server and VPN client support various security protocols including OpenVPN and the latest WireGuard. With VPN Fusion, one can also assign various devices to different VPN tunnels, while simultaneously keeping an ordinary internet connection for regular use, without interfering with the browsing experience of other users. This works even for devices that cannot run VPN software, like smart TVs and game consoles. One can set up and manage VPN connections via the easy-to-use ASUS Router mobile app or in the web browser interface.

Upgraded parental controls
The upgraded parental controls in RT-AXE7800 can make digital parenting more flexible and effortless. Parents can gain insight into their kids' online activity and customize settings for different age groups with the robust settings. Also, users can flexibly schedule internet access with one click, or grant extra online time to reward good behavior.

These $250+ routers should really be coming with at least a one 1/2.5/5gig WAN port AND one 1/2.5/5gig LAN port, better yet, both should be a 1/2.5/5/10GBase-T port...if you're spending that much on a router, you're going to want to use it for several years, and 5Gig ISP plans are already available, let alone two years from now. Plus, it's always nice to have a 10gig connection to a server/NAS

Don't understand the point of 7800 Mbps, if you are limited to 2.5g Lan? 10g internet have been around for a few years already, Asus should stop charging so much for old tech.

It's combined spec. Marketing number based on MIMO and bonding.

Anyway the 1.7ghz quad is just the entry A7 SoC they had, but updated. I believe it factors the radio CPUs, but Merlin dances around that question.. Prob doesn't want to piss off broadcom/ASUS.

The "high end" A53 CPUs (new and old) do a lot better for VPN/file transfer. This is basically a low end router with an extra radio.. (BCM6756 + BCM6715) lol

At least the 5G is 4x4.. Would be stupid if they gave it to the 6ghz band.

It's not though, the most you can get from a single bad and we're talking theoretical speeds if you have a 4x4 client, is 4804 Mbps.
However, in more practical terms, you won't see anything more than 2402 Mbps as sync speed, due to the fact that 99% of clients are 2x2.

... are for people who don't know any better. Those who do buy separate APs instead of fancy routers who promise the world and fail to deliver.

For this kind of money I'd say that's pretty low, even if you're limited by the outside connection for this kind of money you should be getting pretty good lan.

Why is it that each new high end router comes out I have to complain time and time again about the single 2.5Gbit port...

The marketing number is meaningless. "AX6000" with two 4x4 Radios and a high end main CPU would end up better in most scenarios

Edit: Not sure if you meant the lan port specifically, in which case ignore above.
