ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced Strix RX 460, an all-new gaming graphics card with ultra-fast performance, advanced cooling and reliability, and personalized styling. Powered by the latest AMD Radeon RX 460 graphics processing unit (GPU), clocked at 1256MHz in OC mode, ROG Strix RX 460 delivers up to 8.2%-faster performance than reference cards in 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme and 38.6%-faster gaming performance in Hitman.

ROG Strix RX 460 is packed with exclusive ASUS technologies, including DirectCU II with a patented dual wing-blade 0dB fan designed to deliver maximum airflow for 30%-cooler and three-times (3X) quieter performance, and ASUS FanConnect, which features a GPU-controlled fan header to connect to a system fan for targeted supplemental cooling. Pretty sure they are aiming for silent and well-cooled; They the 460 at eSport (hence people playing MANY hours aday.) Im pretty convinced that the card will fit this market. If you guys go to twitch and read down the list and search for the biggests eSport-games now and the last years; 460 will do just fine in more or less all of them with only very few exeptions. I also think alot of people are caught in a performance-gaze where the principle of speed is more important than the actual requirements! Ye sure my 1070 drives CSGO really well, but my so did my 560Ti,GTX670,GTX680,GTX690 and GTX980. If I wanna power a VIVE, sure I need more power, or play the new BF1 when it comes, but a 460 will 'suffice' to the eSport gamers for sure! To eyecandy 4K entusiasts; never, but they are not even in the equation when talking about the 460. (Long rant), only the top was specifically aimed at your comment! =

Passively cooling a 75w chip is going to require a huge heatsink/heatpipe combo, plus a case with good airflow.

And the Strix version is using 90W during gaming and 110 in Furmark.

Lol at the huuuge cooler on the Nitro model. 460 seems so slow. I guess it's 50% faster than the 750Ti though? Why does every review include a $700 1080, but not the ubiquitous 750Ti which is actually in the price bracket.

You only have to look back in history to find older gen cards that were similar in appearance to the one I posted, and had a passive option also for Home theatres etc.
8500GT comes to mind.

That's because 8500gt is a 30w card that couldn't 60fps triple A titles back then on medium high, of course it can go passive with a massive sink, or a tiny fan sink.

Explain where did I say that, as I know perfectly where 8500gt and rx 460 belong to their respective time.

If you still couldn't understand what I meant, 8500gt was 30watt card that could either be cooled with a large passive heatsink or a small fansink combo. The 75watt rx 460 will be very difficult to tame passively with heatsink alone.
