Hey Guys,

So I got a ASUS GeForce GTX 970 STRIX 4GB, when I go to boot up my system, there is no post on boot up. When, I plug in the DVI cable into the motherboard input, the display turns on fine. I have Antec 650W, so I don't think it's a PSU supply issue. I thought my motherboard PCI-E slots were bad, so I tested out my other slots no luck. When I ran my brothers GPU, it ran fine. I don't know what to do next with it, I read this on an old thread, but am curious at the validity of it actually being 100% accurate as I feel I might mess something up. Does someone know how can I go about this ?

PC Specs:

i7 4790K Stock Settings
16 GB G.Skill DDR3 1867 Mhz
Asus Z87-A Motherboard
Antec NeoECO-Modular 650W V2

Thanks,

Ultramix

Thanks alot Bro, but the CSM option is already enabled. I was thinking of maybe reheating the surroundings on the gpu chip, incase of reballing (or resoldering) the chip back onto to the motherboard. What do you think ?

I think, it's not the case atm, try first with the software side. Have you tried to use Display Driver Uninstaller to do a clean and reinstall drivers?

Card is dead. Period. Return it if you can. If you can't, sucks to be out that money.

I don't recommend the heat gun method even though I have had successes with this approach; a lot of people seem to try without flux and I am not surprised the fix is then short lived.

Yes, but it ended up doing nothing.

What do you recommend ? I've read people baking (putting it in their oven), I think heat gun is a better approach than that. lol

On that I agree, it is madness to heat up the whole board as the electrolytic capacitors can't take it.

In the end I used an ultrasonic cleaner with isopropyl alcohol to clean the flux out from under the GPU even though it was no clean flux so could be left, but I worked on cards that were worth maybe $10 each, so I didn't have much to lose.

You might want to send it to a professional and not after having tried yourself.

Like no chance at all. Damn, someone sold me this and said it worked and my dumbass bought it without checking. I have a MSI GTX 960 2GB, do you think it's possible to change the gpu chip, as it's fine.
No. The GTX 960 is based on the GM206 GPU, while the GTX 970 is based on the GM204 GPU. They're not compatible with one another.

Bring it to someone that specializes in the repair of GPUs, if it's soldered on, they can be replaced, finding the correct part might not be easy.

Would anyone know where I might be able to find it ? The code on the chips seems to be IOR 3598 5W1LP. Thank you so much, everyone !

I got someone to put it on, but how would I go about finding the part ? I live in Canada, so it might not be the best place to find such chips. If, you guys know and can get one on hand, I'm willing to pay for it with shipping as well, as long as it doesn't get too expensive. Thanks

You might not be able to find them new, but another old GPU from the same era might help if it has the same parts.
