ASUS P5N-E SLI Motherboard says there is no Hard drive

ASUS P5N-E SLI Motherboard says there is no hard drive in there.When i look in the set up menue i don,t even see the DVD Drive ?I can,t work out how to chaonge anything in there ,or what to do to get this problem sorted out. I changed the CMOS battery, and tried the data cabal in all the connections on the board.There is no problem with the SSD it works fine in other boards.

your bios says it´s the asus p5n32-e plus sli - nice board by the way

do ya have something on the ide slot? if yes remove and try only sata 1

and plz a pic of Boot section

Have you tried setting sata to ahci or ide compatibility mode?

Could just be incompatibility. Similar to VIA chipsets and SATA2 HDDs, setting them to SATA1 mode helps. Is the bios updated to the latest version?

Is the DVD drive a SATA or PATA one?

It's an IDE board and he's trying to use a SATA drive probably without drivers or a modded Bios.

NF650i SLI is also native SATA2.0 chipset.

One possibility is also that the SATA controller is toast, Nvidia chipsets were famous for running hot (nF4 and later ones) so I wouldn't be that surprised if it has problems.

i would have thought. it being a 2007 board sata would be the main thing.

It is working on the IDE how do i change it to work on Sata?

I will have to get drivers for whatever card that is?

It is a native SATA board like I said above. Even nForce3 250/250Gb/Ultra has native SATA and those are few generations older chipsets.

Yeah I was mistaken as the screenshot shows Sata can be detected as a boot drive under the IDE drives.

Having owned probably 10 of them over the years they were relevant, the 6xxi and 7xxi based boards were some of the most temperamental and unreliable/failure prone ever made. It's impressive the thing even POSTs.

I can't remember how the boot preference stuff works, and I never had an ASUS so there's a good chance they did things differently anyway. Can't find a PDF manual anywhere?

From the result here you could be right

It only says there is a drive in IDE masterNothing showing in any of the Sata connections.

This was one of my better boards with a Q9450 i had hopes for it as It s got that nice Snowman cooler on it.The dvd player is not showing even though the light is on it and it opens and closes.

Dunno about that Asus board, but I had a MSI NF650i SLI board ~15 years ago and at least that worked fine with SATA HDDs + IDE DVD drive.

i really like what ya do green but it´s so hard to help ya.

boot screens hard to find nowadays and you are not showing what´s possible in boot configuration or in the boot menu then .............

and again the boot menu shows it´s an asus p5n32-e sli plus not what ya wrote or is it ?

This is what i get two options.
Extended IDE Drive
Selects the type of fixed disk connected to the system
Access Mode Large or None ? What does large mean in this context?
Press{Enter} to select addressing mode.
Any idea?

I'm pretty sure that pressing enter there shows the drive details. For example for the Samsung drive, it'd show its details.
