Have an ancient (8+ years), but still very productive CAD Box, that despite its age, gives me no reason to replace... it does everything I want and far faster than I need. The post has sat on the Asus forum for almost a month w/o a response so I have copied it here in hopes of finding someone whose dealt with this issue
System as described below still serving well as a CAD box and small office data server. Of late the Error Q-Code LED has been throwing a Q-Code 30. The Asus Manual lists :
30 - Reserved for ASL (See ASL Status Codes Section below)
0x30 - System is waking up from an S3 Sleep State.
It usually happens in one of two instances ...
a) I'm looking at a web site, typing a comment in a forum with 1 or 2 apps open. The system freezes and becomes non-responsive requiring a cold boot, maybe once a week. Most times, I'm just looking at a frozen screen ... once and a while it goes to a solid color. System is never turned off
b) I return in the morning. and the system appears to be fine but the Code 30 is being displayed
.... while the Code 30 is intended to just be informative and nothing to be concerned about, the a) instance where the system is non-responsive negates that "no worries" answer. The fact that after 8+ years, that code has never been seen before the last 3 weeks is also puzzling. I had another issue associated with backups over the network but resolved that one ... it was coincidental and my error.
The are no new error / warning messages in Event Viewer other than the same ole ones been ignoring since Day 1
Just looking to avoid the occasional freezing / cold boot thing and why never seen the Q-code until last 3 weeks. Wanted to experiment with the various OS settings but while understanding what each Sleep State does ... have not been able to discern what, if any, sleep setting in the OS allows the system do drop into each of the different states (S1, S2, or S3) .
The system is on all the time as it does network backups in the off hours.
Again, Event Viewer shows no new warnings other than those since the day 1 build
I don't see my System Specs drop down anymore ...so noting that MoBo is a Max VI Formula ... which I remember waiting thru various steppings until they had fixed a problem where by external drives that went to sleep, never woke up.
