ATI is scheduled to release their new top model - the X1950XTX - in late August. The new chip, codenamed R580+, is no different to the R580 in terms of design, production process, and clock speed, but features GDDR4 support. It keeps 16 Pixel Shader pinelines, 48 Pixel Shader processors, and a 256Bit memory controller. It is manufactured by TSMC using a 90nm process and clocked at 650MHz. Utilizing GDDR4 memory, the X1950XTX is the first card that steps into the era of 2GHz DDR. The price is set at $399.

A picture of the reference card:

The RV570 will be known as the X1950 Pro, a successor to the X1900GT. The RV570 has 12 Pixel Shader pinelines, 36 Pixel Shader processors, and a 256Bit memory controller. Manufactured by TSMC using a 80nm process, it's clocked at 600MHz with 1.4GHz GDDR3 memory. The heat sink occupies a single slot. The Radeon X1950 Pro is the first GPU with a built-in Compositing CrossFire Engine, eliminating the need for a master/slave card.

The X1950XTX is to be priced around $400, the X1950 Pro's prices will range from $200 - $250.

The price is indeed right for both of those... less than $500 for top of the line is a change!

I think they stole HIS's design this time around as AC went with that silly Accelero....

According to various Internet sites, late August/early September is about the time that nVidia's latest GPU series, G80, will make its debut... and rumours about nVidia generally turn out to be correct. So if RD580+ and G80 launch around the same time, guess which one consumers will be buying?

Unless ATI knows something that we don't, they're probably going to regret the timing of this launch.

That looks like an Arctic Cooling Silencer HSF design alright, but the red color and gently curved lines make it look awesome, best looking stock cooler, period.
I just hope Arctic Cooling won't sue them! :D :p

I think the most interesting thing here is the Pro version. I wonder how it performs in CF.. Maybe a CF-system for $400 that kick the x1900xt's butt is possible.

That's not a bad price at all for those. I think they're not charging anything outrageous, because we're not far off from next-gen cards. Which, I'm not going to buy another video card until there are DX10 ones out.

Not a bad card, good price too...but like others, I'll be waiting for DX10 cards, and unforunately, I'll be going nVidia (too see how SLI is):ohwell:

These cards look awesome, and I love the idea of the GDDR4...but I still have to remind myself I won't be building a new rig anytime soon, and once I do, in a few years, there will be so much new hardware for optimization in DirectX 10.
