There are two, B3 and G0. The G0 is the better of the two, if you order one new this should be the stepping that you receive.

You have a G0 processor. If you look at the family area and it shows the number "6" it should be G0. I wish you high clocks with that processor, however the newer G0 stepping seem to be able to hit no higher than 3.6 ghz.

Benchmark Scores Fast. I don't need epeen.
G0 hands down. Make sure its not a new G0 stepping, most of those sucked for OCing.

G0 stepping from 2007 if possible, the earlier in the year the better generally, the key usually (but not always) is the Vid, the lower the better but at the least something @ 1.275v or less.

G0 is the best stepping.

B3 gets a little bit hotter when the G0 and G0 overclock best:)

My old Q6600 G0 could run 4,1 ghz:D

How might i go about determining the Vid tatty?

You cant before you buy it unless you are buying used, then you can ask the owner to check the vid which is displayed in coretemps. Other than that you can only best guess by going via batch Number, all retail chips have the batch no on the outside of the box, you just then check the list I linked or google the batch number to get some indication of the Vid, i beleive most batches have the same Vid or thereabouts.
