Next month when 4090 owners will upgrade to the 5090 you'll be lucky to get 70% but I hear you. The 4080s and lower will get slaughtered in second hand market due to competition in the midrange in my outlook.

That's not going to happen, because of the difference in price between both. The RTX 4080 is a lot cheaper and targeted at gamers, who primarily won't afford a 4090 even used. It's a ROG Strix card too, so it helps retain some value.

But it's a valid concern, and part of the reason I might just give this to my brother. Cards like the 3070 won't have any impact since they're already old and the segment that purchases things like used 3070's isn't caring for that anyway. I'm not in a rush to upgrade due to performance, but I want to because the dollar exchange rate in my country is souring very fast and there will be a tax reform, I need to go on about it as quick as I can.

exactly. my buddy irl also thinks he is going to get one on day 1, i keep telling him he won't even be able to get one in month 12.

the factories are focused on AI, this will be a paper launch with the supply/demand ratio.
It's a gamble worse off I'll be a peasant and evenly swap performance with a 5080 ( rumored) lol.

Guess I had not been paying attention, so I am assuming they are in short supply because Nvidia cut production and now content creators/miners/high end gamers are desperate for them?

Although as others have said, while its good money there is no guarantee scalpers wont scoop up every RTX 5080/5090 or whatever else is released. So you may end up using a lower end card for awhile.

hanging on to all my gpus. never sell any of them. feel lucky to have had 4090 and 4080 over the last couple years and i cringe to think what the 50 series will cost. ill be pissed if one of mine dies. as much as i do need to upgrade because of switch to 4K im also content to just sit with what I have until maybe the AI stuff calms down a bit and prices come back to earth. pipe dreams.

Worse off is thinking you'll snag any high end Blackwell around release? That's very positive thinking.

It's going to be harder than 40 series if there is a similar performance uplift like there was between 20 and 30 series. 40 series was rather underwhelming.

I love the hopefulness but but there's going to be a lot of people wanting an upgrade and to sell your cards now for something that may not even be available for months at a time is a bit silly and impulsive.

Oh no a few months without a enthusiast level graphics card luckily the geforce ultimate tear is actually pretty playable in Vermitide 2 game I play at 4k 120hz 10 bit dlaa and reflex stream. The sky isen't falling.

Update besides it will allow current sold games to be more optimized.

The 5090 will be sold in seconds for the first 6 months. I mean good freaking luck if you can buy one.

It's going to be the same line of shit from nvidia again as always. Short supply, supply chain issues, too much demand, blah blah blah.

It's not even on my radar for the first year. You'll put it in your cart and by the time you put your credit card number in, it'll be not available. Haven't we been through this enough already?

Same shit, different year.

Same thing happened with 9800x3d and I bought it one day one like a boss by reserving mine at 7am and walking in after work. If I can't purchase it it's not the end of the world. Although my reflexes haven't let me down yet.

Update one the Noctua Seasonic availability. FYI.

Alright then. Auction of my rtx 4090 has begun. Shall we say start price is 5 Times of what i gave for it.

No my rtx 4090 and for that matter 4060 stays where they are now. Im my pc. I have no reason to upgrade. 4090 is dine for 1440P. Is not that 4K Monster it was at launch, games has become more demanding since. But 1440P is just fine.

I always sell for less than I paid, anything else is kind of dishonest, even though the buyer knows its used.

Maybe its just me

it's not :)

If I've had it over a year and it's still being sold new, I target 20% below MSRP as my starting price unless the market has the pricing below that already.

If the stuff I'm selling is in perfect working order and great cosmetic condition, I adopt a moral code: no more than 70% of what I initially paid. My objective here isn't to make a profit, just help fund my upgrade. Which is the entire point. Oftentimes I just pass my hardware to my brother and sell his old stuff. I'm likely going to end up giving him my RTX 4080 and selling his RTX 3070 when I upgrade to the 5090. That way I get a cushion on the purchase, he gets a massive upgrade for free, and everyone's happy.

Highly respectable. I do agree with that idea to be fair, it is used and you paid X, no need to get more than X, indeed.

But here's one for perspective: collector's items. Why are they allowed to command a far higher price than the purchase price on the same second hand market? Because that IS a 'anything goes' market all of a sudden? As if the GPU market is not at this point...

I usually put it on ebay and just let it settle on what someone's willing to pay.

Don't worry Nvidia is gonna do the same with the 5090

It's a free market after all everyone is responsible for their own wallet and where that money goes.

That being said I'll keep my 4090 at least another 2 possibly 3 years because it will go i to my secondary pc prior to being sold for a couple years.

I suppose uniqueness and scarcity. For example, the JHH edition Titan V... the primordial AI card. it's a known fact that there were only 20 in the world, and that they were personally gifted by Jensen Huang himself to their original recipients. Over time, some could potentially break. Others would shift owners, while a few undoubtedly are being stored somewhere very safe. That generates a market value because people have a desire to have exclusive items.

Nice as my GPU is, it's just one unit of the 10s of 1000s just like it that ASUS produced. There is nothing exclusive or luxurious about it.
