I mean PoW is really energy intensive. I totally get why they are doing it.

I'm not entirely convinced something won't just replace ethereum though. And even ethereums got a few months left at minimum.

Ethereum is and will always be a PoS, its not even tied to a release, that's just people thinking it will somehow change anything. All you need is another abstraction layer and this can go on forever.
