Bricked Vega 56 (BIOS Flash)

Hey all, first things first no one to blame but myself. I learn by doing and I played around with this card a bit to much and flashed both bios', then due to reworking a mining rig a bad vbios was flashed to this card etc etc.

Right now I have done my best to locate the right BIOS (https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/195871/msi-rxvega56-8176-170811) but getting errors when I try and flash is. Probably bricked, but coming to the smart people to see if I can rescue it!

I am using AMDVBFLASH via hive os version 4.100+ and when I run -i I do see "failed" in the test.

When I attempt to flash I get Failed to read ROM ERROR: 0FL01.

Card shows up as an Radeon Pro V320...

Adding pictures of the items from the card, used this as an opportunity to tear down and re-paste and pad my first GPU as well, and appreciate any help any one is willing to offer!

Well the sticker says MSI.

Chipcode is
215-0894216 which is Vega 56

Problem is the HBM, some bios have 1 or the other but not both makers

P/N 102D0500300 000001 or like must be contained in the file

CF7 might be a clue too

Unfortunately that seems to be the foolproof way but Look for my guide, also igors lab might be able to provide tools

D500300 must be in the file and for msi that code appears to be Samsung based cards, not hynix

Dumb question, but what are the dip switches on the back of the card for, and any chance one or both may have been moved?

This may be helpful, meminfo shows invalid bios signature. I feel like I need amdvbflash 2.93 (trying to figure out if I can install it on HiveOS), and I might be able to force the right bios to flash and recover the card

Only one dipswitch for bios (unless I am missing something)
On the back of the card above where the sticker is meant to go (it's blank) it has dual dip switches.
The card also has progress LEDs which I believe show usage or power

Bios switch appears to be in the usual position on the top edge towards the IO

Here we go gpu tachometer

Only one dipswitch for bios (unless I am missing something)

Dude that might be an airboost card you are dealing with.

Get a picture of the heatsink and fan

I do have an airboost, this one doesnt have any of the markings on it like that one....
Well those dip switches on the back of the card are for gpu tach leds and airboost heatsink and regular heatsink look the same other than the cutout for the gpu tach

Try an Airboost bios

Confirmed dipswitches are for the tachometer color stuff

For what it is worth I am pretty sure this is the bios -- https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/195871/msi-rxvega56-8176-170811 looking in the file just in notepad the header has

I am still getting the "Failed to read ROM error" feels like the CF7 key on the sticker would have something to do with that but it may just be a more generic error...

That is 3.04+ from igors lab

Last solution is a hardware flasher...

Got there with your guide but its taking what I would consider to be a long time to detect (im at about 5 mins).

Have it detected in 3.15 just gotta find the rom I guess same errors as in hive os

I think I got it yall!! TY for the help!

@eidairaman1 one of the links you posted def has some malware going on (got me on it so have to unwind that), but I would recommend not sending that 3.04+ version from igors lab that you have.

One final flash from HiveOs and bingo bango... I did have to use 2.93 and force the flash, I think I read in a reddit or somewhere that one of the BIOS can only be flashed 1x, so I had to try to force flash the bios to each one to find which one could be flashed again.

I also had to find the right bios that could be force which was still not really the right bios but was close enough to get through the process...

I think the Bios you originally linked is the correct one based on the numbers D0500300.102, also the Bios version should be 16.001.001.000.008771

602-V803-Z serial number range on MSI cards are reference model cards. So the reference bios which you already have listed in the starters post should work:

Proof that 602-V803-Z serial numbers range belong to reference models:
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/original-rx480-8g-ref.321630/
https://community.amd.com/t5/general-discussions/help-whanted-msi-6900xt-16g-low-fps/td-p/458723
The screwy thing about it is the 2 dip switches on the back of the card for gpu tachometer

Since the Ref and Airboost cards use the same heatsink design, the seller probably put a ref appearing hs on it inspite it being airboost but. @PassiveArticFox is the card working with drivers?

It was working up to a shutdown and reboot at which point the vbios reset to the one I flashed from windows ATI Flash 2.93+

I am going to reflash it (card is still "working" and detected etc but has wrong bios so crashing when any activity is sent to the card for mining).

@eidairaman1 are you saying you think this IS an airboost in fact? Looking online I do see that maybe the non airboost version wouldnt have the tach switches...

The reference model has dip switches. Check the reference review on techpowerup:
