Broken Pcie clip.

So whilst installing my Seagate Firecuda 2TB SSD, I've managed to snap the pcie clip off the mobo. As I am typing from my computer there is no issues but I feel stupid. GPU slipped out the slot too once and hit the case, but all is well. Might just get an X870 and sell this on Ebay, with full disclosure of course. Opinions?

You mean the clip that retains the notch on the card ? It's fine, it's not necessary, it's just there to make sure the pins are all the way in. How can it slip out, the card is screwed in place.

I've had a couple of Motherboards with that clip missing, it's not required but if the slot is still in one peice use the retainer from another slot if it makes you feel better, they just push in.

My current mobo also has a broken clip, managed to break it the last time I took my GPU out '' but it makes no difference really since as mentioned above the card is screwed in anyway. 'might have to be a bit more careful the next time I take out the GPU and probably thats it'

I've broken the clip from some boards on purpose as they made removing a modern dual-slot card practically impossible. Like said on the thread, it doesn't practically matter at all.

Though on modern boards, the clips are easy to fix. Like said, you probably can take a similar clip from an another slot (or from a different board).

as evidenced by google. You could probably buy a replacement clip off amazon or ebay. Significantly a lot cheaper than forking out for a new board.

Unless you want any random excuse to get a new board then it seems your mind is already made up.

Just make sure it's seated probably and that the bracket is screwed well to the chassis' backside.

So I'm all good, that is a relief. Feel better knowing I'm not the only one.

I was thinking about X870 as I want the latest and greatest, but it all works so I would be being wasteful.

Imo, you made a very wise choice. Being that the latest and greatest is kind of a failure at it's job of being the greatest...seems more like a side grade. I'm going to stick with x670/e if 9800x3d is worth buying.
