Hello everyone, hope you are all having a great time.
I own a Deepcool Assassin III which I bought a like a year ago. now I'm planning on upgrading to the Intel 12th gen cpus and I'm planning on a 12700K.
to my dismay, I found out that apparently the new cpus are now rectangular as apposed to the previous square shape they had, and it seems they are no more compatible with former coolers and thus need a brand new cooler.
my question is, Is this correct? is there no way to get this to work? if not what cooler do you suggest buying, both AIO or aircooler. I'm not planning on overclocking, not at least for the next year, and I'm tight on a budget
so I'd appreciate if you could suggest a cooler that would keep 12700K cool when under load 100% all threads (no AVX related instruction sets are involved, its just some raw preprocessings/io stuff)

Side note:
If you need to know the usecase, I'm planning on using this to traing deep learning models on a large dataset (Imagenet)

Thanks a lot in advance

Update:
For future users see my last post containing two videos showing how Assassin III /DeepCool NH_D15 perform on 12700K and 12900K: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/...ii-be-used-on-12700k-cpu.295363/#post-4765416

You’ll just need an adapter.

Thanks a lot really appreciate it,
on a side note, would this cooler be enough for what I have just described above? (I bought it for 9900K, but never got that cpu) or should I really be going for another cooler for 12700K

Absolutely no problem with this cooler.
I maxed out my 12700k (everything overclocked to the limit of the silicon) and it still runs render load indefinetly on a little NH U12s.

You can't achieve better air cooling than the Assassin III provides, as it is basically the most powerful HSF of all. Many reviews place it on par with the Noctua NH-D15, and some even higher.

However, you will likely run into compatibility issues with the cooler height and RAM clearance. I see your current case has maximum cooler height of 175 mm. What RAM are you planning to use?

Thanks, but whats your ambient temp and the temp you get under load?

Thanks a lot really appreciate it. The spec listed on this site belongs to my old rig, I have a whole other system for work with an RTX3080, 32GB of RAM (Geil something 3000mhz I guess) and another case named artemis z6 if I'm not mistaken. I actually tested the cooler and it doesnt fit in the case becasue of the ram heatsink. but I guess I can add a 2cm gap to the case edge using some tapes and couple of pieces of wood to create a frame inbetween so the cooler can fit properly until I can buy a new/better case and hoepfully rectify this for good.

a bit over 20 and low 90s ( heatsoaked 240W load)

without an overclock it's in the high 70s (low 70s on a NH U12A and your cooler is at least on Par if not better)

The Green Z6 Artemis case supports up to 170 mm coolers, while the Deepcool Assassin III is 165 mm. So your only issue seems to be RAM clearance, which can be resolved by swapping the front fan with a 120 mm unit. The fan clips included with the Assassin will fit. I actually ran into the same problem with RAM, even though my case allows coolers up to 177 mm tall. The front 140 mm fan on the Assassin will only clear low profile modules in most cases.

What motherboard do you have? I got myself an Aorus Master.
I will also cool it with a NH-U12A.

Planning on getting the ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4. I guess I'll update this thread when everything is done. it might give someone a clue as how these stuff go together

Edit:
Here's a Japanese gentlemen who tested exactly this! 12900K and 12700K with Assassin III and Noctua NH_D15 coolers :

Make sure you check to see if your cooler will fit that board.

That specific Asus has really limited space around the socket for air coolers.

Those coolers won't fit on the ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4.

When I started looking for upgrades I was planning to get the same board you gonna get, but then I found out my 100 euros Noctua NH-U12A would not fit and I didn't wanted to buy a new cooler so I looked at other motherboards.

What motherboard will you be getting? Or will you get the Asus motherboard and use liquid cooling?

Oh man, I really wished I'd seen this sooner. The dumb me was so fixated on getting the 1700 bracket and wishfully assemble all parts that didnt even think about the possibility of motherboard incompatibility. It just never occured to me that was possible! I wish I had checked the site before buying the mobo that day:(
Yeah, that damned board wont allow me to use the Assasin III. so I'm in need of a AIO.

What motherboard will you be getting? Or will you get the Asus motherboard and use liquid cooling?

great job man. unfortuenaly I chose a bad motherboard, and couldnt install my cooler, now I'm looking for some AIO.

By the way guys, do you think a Lian Li Galahad 240 Black cooler would suffice or should I go for a Lian Li Galahad 360 one? ( I only have access to these two and a corsair H100i 240ml and a ROG STRIX LC II 240 ARGB )

Could you kindly suggest something concerning the AIO as well?
really appreciate your kind help

Here's mine: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/76789119

Capturefirestrike-biosupdate_xmp1_ram3200mhz_2.JPG

I had a lot of issues because of my ram frequencies (everything was on default, thus ram freq was set around 2133) it wouldnt rear its ugly head until, the whole system was under full stress altogether (meaning, cpu, ram, disk all were under-load, which would then crash the app or the system) it took me a full 3 weeks to finally figure out the culprit thanks to God!
I solved the issue by enabling xmp profile 1 and set memory frequency to 3200mhz! all issues went away and I got a much higher score.
For the record, before doing this, this is what I used to get:
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/75918354
and this is not the worse, before I update the bios, it was worse, I guess it was around 31000 ish,. I updated the bios and enabled xmp1 and this is https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/76024127 and 32770 was the best score with xmp 1 enabled : https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/76023951
I went ahead and increased the frequency to 3200mhz (and left everything else on auto like before ) and the score jumped a lot! signifying the importance of memory frequency at least for these tests. also its much much more stable and I have not had any crashes after this.
