no. because most likely that 5pin has a different pinout…

or perhaps clean the dust out of the cpu heatsink, or repaste it.

pictures please.

i assume you talk about mainboards. check the mainboard manual first. please link that manual here so we all can look into it first

U can always try if adapter will fit. These older dell office computers come with different pin layouts than in common atx diy motherboards. Besides...5 pins sounds better than 4 isn't..more pins...more power...better coling!

Funny that you're in this situation, I've typically done the opposite: -re-using 120x38mm blowers, etc, salvaged out of old Dells.

You have 2 options:
1. Purchase the adapter meant for this application:

Amazon: CRJ 5-Pin PWM PC Fan Adapter Cable for Dell Motherboards - 6-inch (15cm), Black Sleeved - Connect Standard 4-Pin Computer Fans to Dell Latching 5-Pin Fan Headers
Moddiy:
2.Re-pin the 4-pin fan to match the Dell arrangement (rendering that fan incompatible w/ other builds), and ensure you properly align the pins upon installation.
Fan plugs are easier to re-pin w/o the proper tools, than other common plugs/receptacles. I've used sewing needles, paperclips, or the edge of a small blade to unseat the pins.

+1 for re-pining fan connectors with a sewing needle. It's my tool of choice.

I have a molex extractor tool kit somewhere......haven't used it in years, but they do make extractor tools if you so desire.

If you are gonna buy something, the converter cable that LabRat linked is your easiest option.

the fun part is - Dell uses 5-pin for case fans, but not for CPU fans. Have seen like ~10 random Dell machines diff era. Case fans proprietary, CPU cooling 4-pin common standard fans.

great stuff, if it was me i would chop the wires and solder them, or depending on how impatient I am, just twist the wires together add electrical tape and away you go… (or if a I am feeling great shrink wrap the wire)

Kludge job or not,
snipping off the Dell's Fan's lead, and splicing it onto the new fan, would give the new fan the "proper" plug.
Heck, put the new fan's 4-pin on the Dell blower, while they're at it

Guess I'd call that Option 2a
