Hi guys,

Need some advice on what I could be doing wrong.

Receiver: onkyo txst605
GPU: AMD rx6800
Soundcard: xonar se

I am unable to get 5.1 DTS or DD via HDMI or Optical. PC was connected to receiver, then to TV via HDMI out into ARC port on TV(picture and stereo sound) testing via DTS file via VLC etc.

I've also bought this soundcard 5.1 advertised, to try toslink but still only stereo sound.

Do any modded APO drivers like realtek that work for C-Media xonar se?

Or can anyone advice how to force 5.1 via HDMI with this GPU?

Thank you.

In the Sound Control Panel, if you select your output device and then click Configure (I can only take screenshots in Portuguese here, but I did highlight the button), does it only show Stereo as an option?

Most Optical outputs are just stereo and rely on the amp for DSP to get 5.1
HDMI in theory if set up right sho and can output right uo to 7.1. Sadly I can’t offer any setup advice. I run my Z906s Analogue off my SB ZX IF I ran it via optical it would be stereo and the DSP in my speakers themselves would use either DTS or DD

I tried to force 5.1 via HDMI via APO drivers FX configuration via tutorial. I got dolby etc installed but now when I try to select Dolby under advanced it says this format isn't supported by your device.

According to these threads in the RoG and the Overclockers UK forums, it looks like the Xonar SE doesn't support DTS and Dolby Digital Live over S/PDIF, further aggravated by its drivers being seriously out-of-date.

I have a SONY Home theater and this situation was a pain at the beginning. Optical only gave me stereo. I connected a HDMI to the HT and still was a bit tricky to get the 5.1 running. It was a learning experience.

Later I learned that the DSP I used with the optical was stereo only, so mind the hardware.

Thanks, looks like Hdmi is gonna be my only option. Don't fancy buying another sound card. Would you have any advice on forcing 5.1 via HDMI?

Does that Onkyo have a Digital sound stage. I have a Sony receiver with one and it can force 5.1 from the PC thorough Toslink.

Issue here is his Xonar SE can't handle 5.1 over Toslink, only through analog.

Check the manual on the receiver Toslink is totally digital and Receivers usually can force it but you MB Toslink might also support it.

I have the HDMI from the 6800 to the Home Theater. The HT must support input from HDMI.

Check what sound stages the receiver has one of them must be 5.1. My Sony is from 2000 and does not have HDMI but should be able to do DTS or Dolby Digital via digital which includes HDMI. What is the generation of your HDMI cable?

The HDMI cable, I have no idea which generation is, so you can easily guess, cheapo/generic.

The HT is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Sony-BDVN790W-Blu-ray-Theater-System/dp/B006U1YV4E, except that is 4k and mine is 1080p (which I don't use)

Got it for $200 over a year ago practically new, since the owner didn't use it because she lived in an apartment and the neighbors didn't like the noise.

The source material has to be coded for it. Your speakers have to be set to small, and multichannel if you want to hear your sub..

My NAD had a multichannel stereo feature for those times it wouldn't light up the Dolby or DTS.
