CI Games Silently Removes Denuvo 4.0 from Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3

CI Games finally released the long-awaited multiplayer update for Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 last week. Although not mentioned publicly in the patch notes, the Polish publisher also eliminated the Denuvo protection from the game. For those readers who don't keep up with the Warez scene, Russian cracker BALDMAN cracked Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 one month after its release. Many would agree that there wasn't any point in keeping the anti-tamper tech in the game. But now, with it gone completely, DSOGaming re-tested the game to see whether there were any performance gains without Denuvo.

To make a long story short, the DSOGaming team noticed a significant reduction in the game's loading time. However, they weren't completely certain if the reduction was a product of the removal of Denuvo or game optimizations done by the developer. The previous performance issues still haunted the game, and there were zero improvement in graphics performance. This was expected to a certain degree taking into account that Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 is a GPU intensive title after all. It might be a different story with games like Watch_Dogs 2 or Assassin's Creed Origins, since they are more demanding on the processor. Now, we just have to wait until Ubisoft removes Denuvo from them.

If you cant make a game thats worth buying and feel the need to try to circumvent your game being pirated by using anti-piracy tools like Denuvo and all the other DRM trash out there. Then surely the real lesson to take home here is to learn to make games that dont suck??

Even if they admit their game sucked terribly, removing the anti-tamper software from the game's library entirely doesn't solve anything.

I own it and Steam says I put just under 4 hours into it. Nice concept utterly clunky execution. Denuvo aside it’s just not a great game.

Since it is a one-sided pile-on, in the interest of fairness, I figure I need to share the pretty balanced review I did, after 66.9 hours. I covered pros and cons, and came away with a positive recommendation. 74 people found my review helpful. I enjoyed it and had a good time playing, despite any negatives or bugs, which I listed, even when they did not apply to me.

"Clunky" is exactly the real sniping experience: too many things to care about with little to none room for mistakes.

No, you focus your game releases on a console crowd that is stuck in a closed ecosystem for gaming, and is forced to swallow whatever junk you put out due to an extremely limited library and no backwards compatibility. And if you're out of money, you just remaster or re-release something past gen as HD or HDR/4K version and cash in again.

Best business model ever

Like who? the only real developer I can think of is Epic Games who love to come out, whine about poor pc sales and piracy before announcing they are going console only but they've always silently come back.

Nintendo? They might have licensed their I.P out to other developers but never actually made anything for the PC themselves afaik.

Sony?? Microsoft??? -- These companies have their own agenda to push and that is to get you to buy their consoles, from a business perspective it makes sense for them to pimp out their platforms because it makes them more money

On a more positive note, Lets look at some releases that we all never thought would make it on PC...

Marvel Vs Capcom games
Streetfighter games
Mortal Kombat games
Killer Instinct Games.
Metal Gear Solid Games.

and there have been a massive resurgence of Square Enix releasing Final Fantasy games on PC too! and im not just talking about the older FF games that have been ported or remastered.

The list goes on....

Never played the third one, but the first two were not worth the few euros i payed for them.
I thought those guys worked in pairs or small groups not alone. Stayed hidden more than shoot at things. A realistic sniping game would be complex and boring. This one with or without Denuvo looks like a simplistic shooter.

You work alone and spend 90% of your time hidden and trying to stay so while sniping down bad guys in the 3rd one. It's why I say in my review it is much more Sniper-oriented than Sniper Elite 4.

maybe you people can think for one second instead of being absolutists

not every dev/pub is well known, not everyone is cdprojekt, not everyone owns their own store that allows them to at least have income in case their game flops, didnt the witcher1 use tages in the beginning?

CI seems to have very few games lately, lords of the fallen also had denuvo & also is singleplayer

a sniping game is going to have the type of audience that overlaps with the cod audience, usually younger, usually more pirate prone

the previous two in the trilogy had multiplayer, this one didnt, this one is removing denuvo when MP comes out, so the enticement of MP is what makes it worthy of not having drm (excluding steam), but where is the enticement of SP in a sniping game from a let's call it a BBB studio? it's extremely risky for them

the crack came out september 12, the game was april 24

if everyone keeps talking about not preordering or not buying in the first week due to bugs or whatever, then what's it matter if there is drm in the beginning if you werent going to be a customer?? what's the point of badmouthing a studio that's somehow surviving AFTER they fix the problem in question AND have a price drop for months AND added an entire gameplay experience??
