So I've removed the IHS but I'm having trouble getting the die to look completely clean. I'm all ears if anyone has suggestions for me to try before i put it on the block.
What I've tried so far:
3 rounds of LM to dissolve the indium
Lots of alcohol wipes
Flitz polish
Lots of wiping scrubbing and polishing but it still looks unclean.

How it looks now. The small die looks clean but i can't seem to get the bigger one looking the same.

I've used 3000 grit sandpaper before as well for the very last bit.

Might go the sandpaper route. Gonna test as is. If the performance isn't there ill work on it some more.

A bit of heat and some solder wick? I can't say I've used it for the exact same application, but that indium solder has a low melt point.

Yup, a heatgun might do.

The solder inbeds into the silicon.

You can continously lap until all the solder has been removed.

Here's an old AMD FX cpu to demonstrate the solder being inbedded.

Thanks for that. Looks super clean. I'm worried about digging into the silicon and killing the chip or lapping too far and losing contact with the direct die but maybe I'll push it a little farther.

Ballsy for sure, and I am wishing you luck. I just razered an 8600G the other day to pretty good success but that's child's play compared to a soldered die like this

I've blocked and LM'd my CPU and GPU and they are both still alive. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting on some parts to finish my loop so i cant test temps or performance yet.
