There has been several discussions recently that have been about Commodore machines of various flavors. TPU doesn't have a dedicated thread for discussing same, so here we are. This thread is intended to be both a general discussion thread and place for people to ask for and offer help with Commodore machines of all varieties.

As always, let's be friendly and keep things easy going and chill. To start it off, let's discuss the following;

most of the discs have been 100% on read this one was only 94% o don,t know where you go from here Wordworth or because it has only gone to 94% it want go any further.I could not get ZOOL to go further than that picture ,although that read 100%.I suppose if it is less than 100% read it is not worth keeping.Anyone on here know about Amiga discs?

I am not having much success with getting floppy Amiga discs to work quite a few with missing flies and one disc only getting 10% on read ,and some going to 100% and when o try to play them it says it is non bootable.The last one found 0 sectors of 1760 ). 0%?And that was one of the ones i bought on eBay ,i want be getting any more unless they are dirt cheap.At least i got it working.

I take it this one want work

I don,t understand why this disc reads 100% yet gets stuck on this yellow ? Could it be something to do with the message on 2374?

This us ment to be Lemmings does anyone know what is going on?
To me, based on the photo's in that post, it looks like the disc image might be a corrupt. Did you make that disc image yourself or did you grab it from the net?

As if on queue;

You'll have to forgive Perry of his exuberance and cheesy theme music.

After watching this I found the CommodoreOS site and grabbed the ISO(torrent file) which is 100% free.

Gonna give it a go and chime back in.

Update:
CommodoreOS is kinda cool! The classic screenfx are a throwback to earlier Linux days. Not sure if I could use it as a daily driver. Cool all the same. However, the Commodore classic systems emulation seems to be a big focus(naturally) and it really excels at this.

@Greenslade
You may want to give this a try.

I'm a bit confused, are you trying to emulate a C64 or an Amiga?

Is this a software emulator in Windows or a Pi inside a C64 shell?

That one I don't know. I am fascinated by Commodore computers, but very little knowledge and experience with them.
Personally, I always wanted an Atari computer or a TRS-80, but was not able to afford one.

I had friends that had C64, C128 and Amigas and had a lot of fun with them.

I love commodore machines even if my first computer was Sinclair ZX Spectrum I was playing a lot C64 and later I have Commodore Amiga 500 which was awesome for gaming.....when it comes to this "New Commodore" or any other New-Old computer I really HATE when they do simple emulation with some modern hardware inside like PI I mean it's alright but its just kind of meh and I actually have much more respect for machines that are build with new parts but have some old original hardware inside and act 100% as the real copy of the original....When it comes to this so called Commodore OS all I can said that is just a gimmick....well sure it's kinda ok but that system is not build from scratch it's just a simple Linux version that is modified and nothing more.....saying this I believe that we should have more topics on TP like this as I really find interesting to see and discuss about retro computers....

I just went looking, couldn't find any reference to the OS & software itself. I think it's just the standard personal use arrangement.

I was going to ask this question and saw it on a c64 forum

C64 Vs Amiga(Does the C64 have any advantages over the Amiga ?)

*lots of advantages. The biggest disappointment with the Amiga is the extremely limited sprite width per scanline. And while the sound chip has four voices, they are annoying split between the two channels so you kinda only really get two voices in practical terms. The lack of attribute tiles also means Amiga graphics are generally less flexible and require more bandwidth for a certain level of color.

So, the Amiga never had anything like the C64's multi-color mode, combining reduced memory and bandwidth requirements with more colors.

The Amiga also lacks the ability to horizontally interlace, which eliminates a number of possibilities. In particular, the inability to position sprites horizontally by 1 high resolution pixel means the sprite pointer can never provide proper high resolution feedback.*

I always thought the Amiga was much more powerful than the C64. Maybe my memory fails me..

I love my Amiga's... I just wish I had the cash for a A4000 T.... Man they are crazy money.....

You'll definitely need a ROM to play the games on the UAE I'm guessing by the error message. A500/A600 was a different chipset compared to the Amiga 1200 or 4000. Those two had the AGA chipset, which isn't in the A500/A600/A1000/A2000. I think the A3000 was an AGA model... I'd have to check...

I don't think the Amiga's are all that expensive if you get a standard model, however start going up the 68000 CPUs and upgrades, they start going for crazy money. I miss my high end machine I had, it was so good, even with 32MB of RAM and 8MB for graphics.. It's my one weakness, love them, won't ever get rid of them :)

PC20-III here , which is a XT 8088 clone.
XTA hard drive (still in working order:rockout:) replaced with a CF-card, and a CH375 addin card to read USB thumb drives.

Experimenting with the PicoMem card , now i can set the clock with a NTP server over a Wifi connection. :D
VERY basic internet with microweb browser (HTTP only , much of all the websites are https nowadays)

Other perks of the PicoMem are RAM expansion from 640k to 736k of contiguous RAM.
After bootup there are 665536 bytes available to execute a program.

The PC20-III uses the same chip as the Amiga for it's mouse port , so an Amiga Tank mouse works on the PC, but better still , an amiga to PS2 converter lets me use an optical mouse.
