Compression fitting or worm clamps?

what do compression do? are they just for looks and quick disconnecting? they always looks like they would pop off can some1 clear this up for me? :rockout:

No I love compressions for their ease and secure connection tho I have only limited experience with barbs. This is kinda hard to explain but a single "compression fitting" is two pieces, one screws into the component and is also the barb-like end that the tubing fits over. Then the second piece which is just a circular deal with threads on the inside screws down over the barb-like piece when the tubing is in place. So installing is in these steps:

1-Screw Piece 1 into pump (or res or block)
2-Place second round piece loose on tubing.
3-Push tube on to Piece 1
4-Screw down Piece 2 on to Piece 1

Yeah stuff like this is what kept me from getting into liquid cooling for a long time. It can be pretty daunting and hard to make sense of much of it without seeing and messing with it for yourself. Once I did (bought a complete used loop) I was like "Wow, there's really not much to this".

Compression all the way. Thats all I have in my system and I love them. Ease of use. No ugly clamps, and they look killer.

You pay more but its worth the extra coin to me.

Tell me these compression fitts don't look sick

All im looking for is the safest way lol i dont see my case where it sits so for now i think i will stick with worm clamps

They are all safe man. Compression fittings are just as safe as clamp as long as you buy the correct size. With compression you need to know the I.D. and O.D. of the tubing. Its that easy.

I can honestly say that my tubing is so tight in my compression fittings that I'd be hard pressed to pull them free without unscrewing the compression top first.

I personally like worm clamps they are just better IMHO . I do however love the looks of compression fittings I just do not like the cash they cost as apposed to a worm clamp .

Better cash wise ! I also think that you can get a tighter seal on the worm clamp as apposed to the compression fitting . But hey for looks the compression fitting has a HUGE lead ! I mean sexy is the word for sure .

I like the Primochill clamp. Works very well, it is based on automotive clamps, and looks a hell of a lot better than screw clamps. Cheap, too.

I dont need no stinking clamps!!!

I went with 3/8" ID tubing on 1/2" OD barbs. takes a bit of boiling water to stretch the tubing but I love the clean and leak free results I achieved.

Worm clamps are no better or worse than compression but yeah they are cheaper.

In the end I think it boils down to presentation.

Well I can't argue about the cost--if you are buying new. Or just wait, like I did, until some guy at XS has no time for some sick build and sells you nice BP Black Sparkle fittings for 1/2 price.

Automotive clamps work the best. Could even use the quick connect fitting used on fuel lines that held up to 60 psi. plastic made and its ok.

Was using compressiong fittings before...

I hated them.. such a pita to unscrew when over tightened! Ended up with sore fingers afterwards.

I have used both and they have both worked welll (neither leaked). I personally like barbs for ease of use as I mess with my rig a lot. Compression fittings are not that much more time consuming, I just hated it when I conected the tubbing and then remembered that I didn't place the caps over the tubbing first

I like sneeky's idea of using smaller tubbing, but I think it would be a pain in the arse to remove the tubbing for cleaning or upgrades/fixes. I could be wrong though.
My final thought is that compression fittings do look nicer, but barbs are not too bad:

1 MORRR WEEK OF SCHOOL then im done for a few months. will be taking my pc apart. might paint my worm clamps black or something. Im redoing my loop will upload alot of pics. it wont look all that good due ti wire management is so bad for my chase. if i try to hide a few the back wont even close it just flexes to much/ no room. and i think my barbs are bigger then the tubes i am using. I cant remove then with out taking the pc apart/ cutting them out.

The pressure fittings look nice and convenient to use.

I prefer just sticking the tubing on the barb with a worm clamp. Just seems like it is less mechanical parts that could break or leak.
