Hello, first post ever here.
I'm having some issues (non-issues?) using my PC, I hear a concerning noise coming from the CPU area of my motherboard(s), I'm posting a video at the bottom, not my video, but the noise is the same from what I can tell.
The noise only happens when I'm booted into Windows, moving my mouse or otherwise putting a synthetic / heavy load on the CPU heavily reduces (changes the frequency into an inaudible range?) the sound. The PC is otherwise fully stable from what I can tell, I've not ran EXPO much, but from what little I did use it worked fine. In BIOS or before POST the noise is is absent.
As mentioned in the title, I first noticed the noise on an ASUS X670E TUF PLUS motherboard, when I was moving the motherboard into a new case, I had to pry a stand-off from the motherboard, I made sure to do so carefully, I did scratch up the board a little bit though - this noise has been noticed to be happening since I did this. I thought I ruined the motherboard, so I bought a new one, an MSI MEG X670E Tomahawk - the noise persists, exactly the same as far as I can tell. I've also tried 3 different high quality PSU's (Seasonic Focus GX1000, Corsair 1000 SHIFT and now a Super Flower Leadex 850W. The noise STILL persists.
I have a hunch it's coil whine, and it's harmless, but to tell you the truth, I bought this PC with the mindset of "I'm not buying new hardware for 15 years if I can get away with it" so I'm worried the noise I'm hearing is deteriorating the CPU (other components?). As I said, everything is stable and working nominally for 3 months-ish. I've taken the PC to 2 seperate repair shops, and 9 people in total cannot hear the sound I describe. I've tried plugging the PC into an outlet on the other side of the residence and another residence neighbouring mine.
I'm at a total loss with my troubleshooting skills and I'm completely ignorant in terms of electricity knowledge. Any help would be appreciated!
Additional note: I've rebuilt the PC numerous times, no cables are loose, I've tried to isolate every component (removing GPU, one stick of RAM at a time, stopping all fans while the noise is happening)
PC specs:
mobo: MSI MEG Tomahawk X670E
RAM: GSkill TridentZ CL30 6000MT/s
GPU: RX 7900XT
PSU: Super Flower Leadex 850W
Storage: Samsung 990 Pro M.2, Samsung QVO SATA SSD
