Do you already have the motherboard or RAM ? If not, go straight to AM5 a Ryzen 7700 and DDR5. Don't get stuck on LGA1700. The 12700KF can be overclocked, but it;s useless and both don't have integrated graphics, that might help you with Quick Sync in rendering stuff.

Too little info.

What kind of games are you talking about?
More importantly, what kind of work?
Do you have good cooling?
What exact motherboard do you have?
If you own an LGA1700 mobo then why do you only consider i7-12700 series? Are 13th and 14th gen options too expensive?

I assume you're not gonna overclock it. But still, be me wrong, what is your overclocking goal?

All in all, for a semi-serious LGA1700 build, I don't see a CPU better than an i5-13600K. Or KF if you absolutely don't care about iGPU. 12700 series is only worth it if comes for a lesser price or your motherboard has serious issues with 13th gen. 14th gen mid-range is usually overpriced as heck, no idea who might want it in this price range.

Ignore AM5 if you already own an LGA1700 board and RAM, winnings are minimal. By the time your Alder/Raptor lake CPU becomes obsolete nonsense the same will happen to whatever AM5 has to offer. To a lesser extent, maybe, but you'll build a brand new system at that point anyway.

One frame per second difference on average between those two cpu's.

both are overkill for 4060. pick what's cheaper, unless you're planning to upgrade to a 4070Ti or higher.
