Correct 12VHPWR cable and Corsair HX750i PSU

Hi,

I'll get my hands on an ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER TUF GAMING OC which will be paired with a 5700X3D.

I already have a Corsair HX750i PSU (CP-9020072-EU) which I understand it has the necessary wattage, according to the Asus website.

My question is, what is the correct 12VHPWR cable for the GPU and how do I plug it in the PSU.

Is this the correct one ?

- (CP-8920284) https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/pc-...5-0-12v-2x6-type-4-psu-power-cable-cp-8920284

And the two 8 pin ends I just plug them in in any PCI-E port on the PSU?

P.S. I understand that is better to have on cable connected directly to the PSU than using the adapter that comes with the GPU, that's why I'm looking for a cable

Thank you

I can see why you're having trouble working out if a modern Type 5 cable is compatible with an HX750i which might be of an older design.

Is your PSU similar to this HX750i Platinum reviewed in December 2014?
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/corsair-hx750i-80-plus-platinum-750w,3997.html

This page on the Corsair web site includes Type 4 and 5 cables but not your HX750i.
https://www.corsair.com/us/en/s/psu-cable-compatibility

This page is for "Legacy" PSUs and older Type 3 cables but again, no mention of your HX750i.
https://www.corsair.com/us/en/s/legacy-psu-cable-compatibility

When faced with this problem, I'd buy the Corsair cable, connect it to the PSU and check the voltages on the GPU end against the pinout chart with a multimeter.
If every +12V and every 0V pin conforms to the standard (in this case 12VHPWR) only then would I connect the cable to GPU.

You're taking a risk, especially if you've misinterpreted the pinout, or your (antiquated?) PSU is no longer capable of outputting sufficient current from the 12V rail to supply the new GPU.

Never having used a !2VHPWR GPU, I'm not sure what the absence of any connections on the four "sense" pins will have, but presumably these four wires are used by modern PSUs to limit its output to 150W, 300W, 450W or 600W. Your old PSU lacks these current limiting sense circuits so it should output whatever power the GPUI demands, until the OCP in the PSU kicks in, or smoke pours out of something.

If your PSU really is 10 years old, the warranty has probably expired. I have three old 850W Corsairs in a spares box somewhere, so I could check a few details, but I don't have a GPU which requires 12VHPWR.

It's up to you if you think it's worth risking a modern powerful GPU and your motherboard on a (potentially) ancient PSU. Do you feel lucky?

I'd advise saving up for a modern PSU with the correct 12V-2x6 output. I know they can be expensive but you could've bought a less powerful GPU (some hope).:)

if you have almost a grand for a GPU you should have another 150 bucks for a new PSU.
buy the new RM1000X ATX 3.1 and you have a PSU for the next decade.
