Hi

I have a new CORSAIR RMI 850 power supply unit, it has a USB cable. So I linked the cable to the motherboard which is a TUF Z390 PRO motherboard.
When I went to iCUE (downloaded from CORSAIR website), I found the RMI 850 in the list. So I checked to see the fan setup. It is called default. And the fan speed was 0 rpm.
I am worrying would the fan stop at 0 rpm even I use the PC for many hours? Please help me understand it.

This is an advertised feature of that power supply, the fan turns off until its needed.

Thanks Mussels for the reply.
Do you know will the fan start when temperature becomes 30 degrees, or 31 degress, or 40 degrees?

The fan kicks when the pc reached 30-40% loads. My psu fan always set 40% to cool every components inside the psu case.

Just go into icue and turn it on so it runs, fanstop is a feature for silence nerds.

it turns on based on wattage/load on the PSU, the PSU is efficient and runs cool so it doesn't need an always on fan.

Keeping the fan off also makes it so it'll last longer without problems, so i recommend leaving it as-is... less noise is always welcome.

With that unit you can use Corsair Link software to control the fan. That is what the USB cable is for. I set mine to quiet and the PSU runs at 25 C with no load and is whisper quiet.

My concern really is why iCUE tells me the only profile setup there is that there are no fan curves for the PSU's fan. How do I know if it is faulty or not?
How do I set up a control to tell me that the fan is spinning when the "load" is rising and beginning to touch the threshold?

I hope I have expressed my question well.

I have the same 850 RMi on my OC-bench and it starts its fan when one of the internal temperature sensors of the PSU hit 45°C. Depending on your ambient temp and potential airflow without the fan spinning this temperature might never be reached. I have it sitting beneath an open bench and it never spins its fan, even at 350W sustained load.

This is normal and no problem!
If you want to test the fan there is a small 'Fan-test' button on the unit that you can press when power is plugged in and the PSU switch is on. When you press the button the fan should spin and tell you that everything is ok.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)

The manual tells you exactly when it should turn on. Also, as was just said, there is a TEST button on the back of the PSU to test the fan.

as others said, manual/box/product page describe the fan curve, and theres a physical test button near the USB port on the PSU

Yes, even though I have many to read and watch, I have overlooked this minor part. Thanks for the reminder.

About fan curve, I really have question.
What is a good, working well fan curve. I setup fan curve for my GPU. However, when I checked out the realtime fan graph, it jumps up and down like an inverted cone. I worry if that would hurt the fan in the long run.....
