CPU Block Suggestion - Modultra LOBO CPU water block/heatsink or EK-Quantum Velocity² D-RGB - 1700 Full Nickel w/EK-Quantum Velocity² Direct Die-1700

Right now, I am looking at the following two blocks. I will use the Intel 14900K CPU. I will have the CPU overclocked. I have done my research, and right now my first choice is the EK Full Nickle Block with the Direct Die. From my research, I have seen some nice reviews on the Modultra water block/heatsink combination. I do understand the Modultra is a block, and pump all in one, and the EK is a block only.

Modulta stays "Pump Cooling: The LOBO in conjunction with a Modultra heatsink has been shown during testing to decrease DDC pump temperatures by more than 45 degrees C. This is a function of the LOBO’s solid brass body and heatsink conduction paths into the body. Because the body is solid brass, and the pump is sandwiched between the body and the aluminum heat sink, heat flows from the pump into the loop coolant. This means that your DDC pump will live a much longer life due to decreased operational temperatures. Estimated heat load addition to the loop coolant should be between 6-10 watts, depending on your pump load. Loop temperature increase will depend on loop size and radiator configuration but is estimated at 1-2 degrees water temperature. We at Modultra think that a 1-2 degree increase in water temperature is a small price to pay for a 45 degree temperature reduction in your DDC pump."

Does anyone have any real work experience with the Modultra?

The direct die version has the biggest potential (fastest heat transfer), but are you aware of the fact that you have to remove the IHS from your brand new CPU which means: warranty void!!!

see text below from EK:

Details

EK-Quantum Velocity² Direct Die D-RGB - 1700 Nickel + Plexi is specifically designed for direct die cooling of the Intel® LGA 1700 socket-based CPUs of 12th and 13th generation Core architecture. It features a direct-die-exclusive cooling engine that is LGA 1700 socket-specific. It requires the removal of the IHS, the process popularly called Delidding. This CPU water block is EK-Matrix7 compliant and is mounted via a reinforced EK-Exact Mount system.

For every other model the cooling capacity is comparable to each other, as the limiting factor is the IHS and the TIM below. That's why there is a direct die model, for the die hards ;).
Also, 14th gen is not mentioned (yet) in their compatibility description.

There is also a new block from Alphacool that has some impressive Specs.

I had written this on your other thread as I didn't realize you had a separate one for the CPU block discussion:
"Heatkiller are great parts. I have a heatkiller GPU block that is performing very well. I also have one of their MO-RA rads and use their reservoirs at work.

I have an Optimus CPU block that I really like, but their GPU blocks are crazy expensive. They sometimes have "blemish" sales where a part may have a scratch or something and it gets a heavy discount. It's a risk where/what the blemish is, but it is never one that effects performance and they're often undetectable, so it can be a good deal.

I agree with Belfaborac on EKWB. They do have some good quality products, but they've been increasing prices without increasing performance for a while. They have some unique and interesting designs, but they're more about bling than performance."

I'll add to that after catching up with this thread. Delidding is made to look easy by Der8aur, Jayztwocents, etc, but I also know people that destroyed the first CPU they tried it on. It also tends to ruin any resale value of the cpu and you will need to keep an eye on the temperatures as they need re-pasting more often than unmodified CPUs, especially if you use liquid metal. So I don't personally see the benefit outweighing the cost if you're not seeking out record benchmark scores. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, but I wanted to make sure you weigh the costs before committing to it.

I switched from a HK IV to the alphcool Core 1, which i think is near the best performing CPU block now without delidding, which i am not doing to my 12700k.

As I continue my search and research, I have found that the EK-Quantum Velocity² DDC 4.2 PWM D-RGB - 1700 Nickel + Plexi is a reliable choice. However, there is one aspect of this part that I am concerned about. The reservoir is placed on top of the DCC pump and CPU block, which makes me wonder if the pump will run hotter due to this configuration, and DCC noise. On the other hand, this option allows for two less components in the ITX build (pump and reservoir).

Any real work experience?

Hi,
Region would help
Best least & expensive cpu water blocks in the US is the optimus foundation way better than ek offerings only ek block close to it is the ek magnitude.

EU
Get on facebook and hit up super cool computers
They have a very good direct die solution mount and water block.

@mrthanhnguyen has one.

I reached out to Optimus yesterday about other blocks. They have a version of the Singiatire V3 - CPU Block - Intel soon. When I am not sure. But it is extremely nice block. In the picutre below is the AMD version. Extreamly nice looking block, but companyies thense day, never tell you when items are coming out? All you get we are testing :)?

I only know of one person who tried it and wasn't very happy with it.

Thank you for sharing! It seems like there are some issues with the product right out of the box. The ports on the side of the RAM are a bit unusual. I am planning to wait and see when the Optimus CPU block will be available. Hopefully, someone can provide a date soon.

I also spoke with another user who had a completely different experience with the pump. The user from the link you provided did not like the access points and found the continuous buzzing of the pump to be very annoying. In my opinion, this is a major drawback. If I were in their shoes, I would have returned the triple block by now.

Hi,
Yeah I didn't see a sigV2 Intel there just the V3 amd
SigV2 is a very good block to if you can find one very surprised optimus doesn't list it anymore.

I agree that it seems like Optimus has a limited supply of their products. It's understandable though; after all, business is business.

Hi,
Yeah if business is good it's understandable for short supply.
Foundation is still an awesome block.
