Hello,
I recently cleaned my cpu fan and It's not spinning ever since. When I move the fan blades with my fingers the rpm is detected in the bios but the fan itself isn't spinning on It's own. I encountered this problem few months ago too. I am not sure how to fix this but can anyone help

you have an external power adapter that can do 12V/1A?
use some wires with bare ends to connect the fan plug to it and see if it spins, if not, check if it makes noise (motor trying to run).

i personally would just switch the fan, but if there are 2 versions (air flow vs pressure), i recommend goping for pressure (heatsink)..

fluid bearing
ball bearing

rgb

maybe frankenstein it, and mount a larger fan
120 pressure fan

Hello,

What are your temps? Are you sure it is supposed to be spinning? Sadly you told us nothing of your system, but it is possible your system has sensed that the CPU is running nice and cool and therefore, does not need the fan to spin. This is not uncommon when the system is at or near idle.

What you need to do is first, verify you didn't knock any cables loose while cleaning. If all you did was wipe or brush the dirt off the blades, that should not have damaged it. If you used some sort of liquid cleaner or even water and that got into the motor, that could be the problem.

If all the cables are securely fastened, and no liquids were used, then you need to put a load on your system, watch your temps and see if the fan spins up as the CPU temp goes up.

I use and recommend Core Temp to monitor CPU temps in real time. Under Options > Settings > Notification Area, I have mine set to display "Highest temperature" only.

A simple program like CPU-Z has a "Bench CPU" feature that will take the CPU up to full speed and 100% utilization. I suggest starting Task Manager at the same time, and under the Performance tab, click on CPU. When the Bench CPU feature is running, you should see the CPU is running at 100% and full speed. If all is working properly, the fan should spin up and I suspect you will "hear" it spin up too.

If the fan never spins up with this test, then you definitely have something wrong. If me, I would plug my PSU Tester into my spare PSU. The tester tricks the PSU into thinking it is connected to a motherboard. This is better than the "paperclip" method because the tester provide a small "dummy load" for the supply, necessary to ensure stable output. With the spare supply running, you can then use one of the PSU power leads to test your fan as suggested by Waldorf.

You can just check his system specs.

I could have sworn I did look and didn't see System Specs at all. I must still be severely decaffeinated this morning. Sorry about that. And thanks P4-630.

Anyway, assuming that is the computer in question, that Gigabyte motherboard supports "Smart Fan 5 features Multiple Temperature Sensors and Hybrid Fan Headers with FAN STOP". So my suggestions in my post above still apply.

ok I got it back to working again. I tried re-soldering the main connections and reinstalling the fan blade and one of them seems to fix it.

I bet it was a lose connection somewhere. Glad to hear it's back in working shape.

Sorry to hear about the issue with your CPU fan. Based on the information provided, it seems like there may be a problem with the fan itself. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue:

  1. Check the fan power connection: Ensure that the fan is properly connected to the motherboard's fan header. Make sure it is securely plugged in and that there are no loose connections.
  2. Test the fan on a different header: Try connecting the fan to a different fan header on the motherboard to see if it starts spinning. This will help determine if the issue lies with the fan header or the fan itself.
  3. Replace the fan: If the fan still doesn't spin when connected to a different header, it's possible that the fan is faulty and needs to be replaced. Consider getting a replacement fan for your ID-cooling SE 903-XT cooler.
  4. Contact customer support: If the above steps don't resolve the issue, it's recommended to reach out to the manufacturer's customer support for further assistance. They may be able to provide specific troubleshooting steps or offer a warranty replacement if necessary.
Remember to follow proper safety procedures and consult your CPU cooler's manual for any specific instructions before attempting any repairs or replacements.
He fixed it already, rejoice! And welcome to TPU.
