CPU upgrade: Ryzen7 5700X → 5700X3D

My current build looks like this. MB: B550 GPU: RTX4070 CPU: Ryzen 5700X RAM: 16GBx2 DDR4 OS: Win11 Home PSU: 750W

Been wanting to upgrade my CPU for a while since I play CPU heavy games eg Tarkov, Helldivers, Hell let loose, RTS.

Ideally, I would go for a 7800X3D but it costs around 800USD with tax and conversion rate included for where I live and most retail stores I personally trust has ran out of stock. Not to mention swapping out the MB, RAM and perhaps the CPU cooler comes with an additional cost.

On the other hand, 5700X3D is like 300-400USD with no need to swap out other components (I think).

Is this a logical and a reasonable upgrade? Or am I being stupid here? If I were to buy a 7800X3D, I’d like to make a 2nd PC from scratch and use my current pc for my work/business work station.

Thx for taking your time reading and sorry for the long post.

What utilization is your 4070 running at in the games you play? Is your CPU pegged right now?

If you're playing at 1080p, you might see some uplift going to a better CPU, but if your 4070 is already at 99-100% utilization and your CPU isn't running that hard in those games, you will likely see minimal uplift. It's important to remember that the CPU comparison charts on reviews are using a 4090, intentionally trying to bottleneck the CPU as much as possible to show the differences in the CPU. If you are not running a 4090, that bottleneck shifts towards the GPU and you may not gain as much by upgrading your CPU.

Side grading 5700X to 5700X3D probably isn't as cost effective as getting a better GPU but you already have a 4070 making this side grade an relatively expensive prospect to chase higher framerates. I would go 7800X3D but if the cost is too much you don't have to get a X3D CPU either. Better choices might be 7600x/9600x if cash is tight. Looking at benchmarks between 5800x3d and 7000/9000 cpu's will come in handy trying to pick the right one. You should also check to to see if the games you are playing actually benefit from X3D.

which rams speeds? if you are 3200-3600 you are done. static overclock 5700x at 4,775ghz using lowest possible voltages and call it a day untill you get 5700x3d or 5800x3d at discounted price. tweak windows and disable spectre protection also help, upgrade bios, chipset drivers.
