Creative 3D Blaster 5 FX5900

Hi guys,
My Radeon 9600 pro has officially died now. I decided to buy a Creative 3D Blaster 5 FX5900 as a tempory thing before i get my new PCIe system. Is this card any good for overclocking and can i buy and cooling addons for it? From the looks of it it seems a lot better than the 9600 pro. I managed to get it for £40 ($70ish) everything over here in the uk is so expensive
Anyway tell me what your general opinion on this card is and whether it will run ok.

Well you may be able to mod it for a FX 5950 I know when you do that usually you get temp drops(pretty good ones too 5-10C) and can therefor OC it more. I did the same thing to my EVGA card. I would of reccomended something a little newer for a temporary replacement say a X1300 or X1600, because they are a little more modern. But the FX 5900 is a decent card. If your interested in the mod to FX 5950 let me know by replying and I'll dig up some information and Bios for you to flash on it.

the x1600's are faily solid cards. my friend has a pro 256mb in his athlon 2500+ system. given it wont run games at max but it is only about 150. it breathed alot of new life into his system.

I was going to buy something a bit better but my parents have just told me i have to pay for tax on my car and insurance so i could only afford around £40-50. In the Uk you cant really buy anything decent with that amount of money lol.

Alright well I found the document will all the links I used for flashing my FX 5900 to a FX 5950 NU. Since their are only FX 5950 U Bios (256mb) and you have a 128mb card you use the FX 5950 U bios. This will not lead you to any problems regardless of the memory difference.

The first thing you should do is clock the card as high as you can. Bump it up a good bit, run 3dmark05 then bump it in smaller incraments until you find the cards max OC. So once the 3dmark scores either start decreasing or you see artifacts you take it back to the highest score/ most stable speed w/o artifacts.

Then once you have done that you get to search for the bios.

I don't know if this will work with a PCI-E card my car is AGP. You might need to find or mod special bios. I don't know if anyone else on the forums can help it would be great. I'd suggest looking through this thread

Maybe someone has a PCI-E card on their a modded the bios. Because I know PCIE vs AGP bios are different and if you flash AGP bios onto a PCI-E card you might kill it. SO Id suggest trying to find FX 5950 PCI-E bios. I don't know if they exist so you might need to use a bios mod program to try messing with the bios. I'll do a little more research.

Its an AGP card Im saving up for a PCIe system... I was close until my bastard parents made me pay for stuff! lol

Just bought an Arctic cooling NV4 rev2 fan to fit to it and i downloaded the FX 5950 bios. I think it will go fairly well for a tempory card. Thanks

make sure they are PCIe I can not stress that importance enough fi they are not, you may be in trouble.

Oh Wow I'm dumb, I thought you had a FX 5900 PCX (the PCI-E version) lol. Well I apologise for my stupidity. Use some modded FX 5950 U bios from that link in my second post. You will probably get some nice yields
