well after a happy short life it died.

i was using it all day at work yesterday worked fine, went to use it on the bus ride home and it wouldn't power up. i figured i forgot to turn it off and the battery died. well when i got home i put it on the charger. it powered up and started charging. then about 10 minutes later, i heard a weird squealing sound. once i tracked the noise down, it was my mp3 player.

i picked it up to unplug it and see what was wrong, the dam thing was pretty hot. not burning hot, but hotter than its ever gotten. now its a brick.

i contacted creative support(what a joke, think dell only worse) they were no help. i dont have the receipt so no warranty.

i recently moved and threw away the box, receipt was in it. now i'm screwed

arghh just ranting srry

not the end of the world

i sold a rifle scope of mine on the same day my zvm died. took those profits and bought a new zen vision w, the one with a 4.3 inch wide screen.

i live in the city and commute 1 hour on the bus each way. so my media players get used. i really need 1 to keep from being bored to tears on my bus rides.

those media players use 1.8 inch hard drives. anyone know if there is a usb adapter to use the hard drive as extra storage on my pc?

other option would be, buy a new 1 at walmart(where i bought it at originally) then put my old one in the box and return it. lol just kidding, that would be unethical.

does it power up at all? not even to the boot screen?

i mean i had a problem that somehow the firmware got corrupt all i had to do was to install it again good job to as it would have been a very expensive paper weight

have you tried booting it up to menu screen - with my creative zen i take the battery out - hold the power button on and then insert the battery again - then this makes it boot to, I'll call it BIOS (have no idea what else to call it)

Very much luck indeed. :) Report your progress. I have one of those too, and that problem made me kinda worried.. I don't want my baby to die..

But I'd really appreciate if you would keep us updated. :toast:

EDIT: Cleaned up spelling a bit. I'm very tired right now.

I'd say it would probably have been the HDD that died. I don't think batteries squeal at all. :p

I've had my ZVM for nearly a year now, still going strong (fixed the scratches on the screen with superglue and metho, message me for how I did it if you want.)

With regards to the receipt woes, I feel your pain. I've had it happen several times, the last time that happened, I grabbed the attendant by the collar and told him to replace it or I'd violate him with the jagged end of the Xbox. :p (Kidding. I wouldn't really do that.... or would I? :p)

bit of an unlucky one if you ask me, the guys are right keeping your receipt would have been a brainy idea. mind you i bought an Xbox bout 2 year ago, flung the box n receipt away and two days later the HD screws up, not being able to swap HD's cos of Microsofts HD key. so i bought another, this time a crystal, this time i still got the box n receipt!!

i love my Zen V:M. hope i never have your problems. On thing you may, or maybe not, want to try is buying a travel charger for it and try charging it from an outlet instead of USB (which is how i'm assuming you charge it since they only come with a USB cable) i've talked to several ppl who had "dead" Zens and told them to try this and it was able to pull their Zen out of its coma state. Of course this only applies if your Zen is dead on power, because it has to have so much of a charge for it to communicate with your computer on USB and charge. it's weird, but try it. And as far as buying a new one and returning your old one in the new ones box... pshh, go for it. i've done it a couple times. the stores get refunded and Creative gets their f***** up product back to try to fix and sell as a refurb. It's the same as if you wouldnt have lost your receipt.
